Camping in hawaii??

Hi I heard that there are places where you can camp out in hawaii?? Is that actually true, and does anyone actually do this?? thought hawaii was all about NOT roughing it ::)

I heard that a person can actually rent cabins on maui in a state park..Does anyone know about this?? WHo would I contact to rent one??

There are plenty of places you can camp or rent cabins. Try checking out the website for Alternative-Hawaii.com. They list all National parks, State parks, County parks as well as private campgrounds and cabins. I am sure you will find something to suit your needs. They're both pretty good and informative; and yes, lots of places to go camping; renting cabins, etc. Been there, done that and it was a lot of fun.

I do agree with the "Hawaiian..." dude above. Check out those sites. You may also want to double check on the camping permits. Certain places may require a camping permit. Not all camp sites (beaches) are safe, so you may want to be cautious of where you want to camp (and never alone).
Aloha, and I live on Maui, and the cabins you mention are located in Hana, at a state park, called Waianapanapa, but they say you need to rent those a year in advance, but also, you can set up a tent there. We have many places to camp here on Maui, but the best one called POLI POLI campground in upcounry, had a big fire early this year, but you can camp along the ocean on the west side , but you will need to get a permit, which is cheap, then no problems. Call the state parks or use the internet, and just type in campgrounds in Maui, HI. Aloha...........When you enter campgrounds in maui, you will get all the information you need so check it out.
