Calling all Oahu citizens and recent visitors, what are good travel sights and ideas? |
Travel Info Family of five adults (20s and 50s years of age) is planning a trip to Oahu, Hawaii within the next two years. When is the best time for bargains? Points of interest? Web sites for attractions (little known secrets)? Any info is welcomed!!!!! Will be my parents' anniversary also. All monetary donations welcomed also! LOL Travel Tips I also recommend the book Oahu Revealed, (all of the revealed island books are great) The best time for bargains is usually in January, in the "off season" but it really doesnt change too much. Also, make sure you fly in and out on weekdays, that will save you on airline prices. By the way, have they considered renewing their vows while they re here for their anniversary? We could provide a vow renewal at sunset on a secluded beach for them. Source(s): www.ParadiseWeddings.org Other Travel Tips recent visitor here! Pearl Harbor very moving, Diamond Head great views. I didn't care for Wakiki. The beaches were nice but it was a really ritzy tourist area. (had more Coach stores than one city needs) I did a great eco tour see site below. Ask for Gaylord! The Hilton had some free activites. Also it's really cheap to fly to other islands Aloha/Go charges $35. Out of all the islands I loved Maui and Kauai the best. Enjoy http://www.oahunaturetours.com/guides.ht... http://www.hiltonhawaiianvillage.com/res... Honolulu is a place full of fun and excitement. I was last there October of 06 and here are my recommendations... Sights to see: 1. The Polynesian Cultural Center is run my brigham young university, hawaii and showcases all aspects of polynesian culture from the hawaiian islands to tonga, somoa, new zealand and beyond. Most of the students that work at the PCC are native to the islands they represent. For more info search polynesian cultural center. A little pricey but worth every penny. 2. Pearl Harbor/Battleship Arizona memorial is such an important part of US history, since info was already provided, I digress. 3. Diamondhead state park is one of the most prominent features of oahu's terrain. This huge black edifice can be hiked and I strongly suggest you go as close to sundown as possible, one of my favorite places to photograph a sunset. 4. National cemetary of the pacific or "punchbowl" is a US military cemetary and a must see! 5. Haleiwa town/North shore Oahu is some of the most beautiful country in the entire world, the red clay and jungle really transport you to a new world. The north shore is famous for its HUGE waves. 6. Aloha bowl swap meet is a huge swap meet near pearl harbor, last I checked it ran sat/sun and wed. Rent a car and check it out for local art and a huge selection of mementos. 7.Pali highway is where legend says king kamehameha marched an enemy tribe off the edge of a cliff. SUPER windy, hang on to each other here and bring a camera. Thos are but a few places to visit now, some drinks, some eats and a relaxing massage. 1. Le Mer in the halekulani hotel, oahu's ONLY 5 star restaraunt. Simply amazing. 2. Cheapest all you can eat breakfast is at perry's smorgy on kalakua 3. Best burger in honolulu is burgers in paradise, cant remember the address now but its GOOD. 4. My personal favorite bar is Dukes, great drinks, great atmosphere heres a link http://www.dukeswaikiki.com/ 5. Ono's cheesesteak is AWESOME, go there buy something. These guys SAVED my butt during the october earthquake of 06, and they make great cheesesteaks too. 6. Best Luau is the paradise cove luau, dont be a "ugly cousin" and get yourself a "back scratcher" 7. For the best massage in honolulu go to Spa Olakino in the hilton hawaiian village...so good I fell asleep. well, thats all I could think of, hope your trip is awesome, Aloha! You owe it to yourself to get the book, Oahu Revealed by Andrew Doughty and Harriet Friedman, the best guides for the islands in print today! You will be overwhelmed by Hawaii, it is a special place. Aloha! |
