specifically on waikiki theres the beach some shopping and dining, i stayed a lil off waikiki on ala moana and its right next to the largest open air shopping center in the US(ala moana mall).

diamond head is over there near waikiki which you can hike up and from what i hear have a beautiful view of the island(unfortunately i didnt go)

and the zoo is right next to waikiki beach

also like said earlier the bus can take you just about anywhere $2 one way and if you get back on within 2 or 3hrs its a transfer and you dont have to pay your way back. depending on how long you stay you can get a bus pass like a 4 day unlimited for $20

(not in waikiki) i suggest going to a luau i went to germaine's luau its about $60 they pick you up from your hotel and send you to a private beach you get 3 free island drinks, unlimited sodas, and all you can eat food. and of course a show

also a circle island tour isnt bad to do i highly recommend The Grand Circle Island Tour from Polynesian Adventure Tours if you can try and get Kaoa(i think thats how you spell it, its pronouced like meow with a k) hes great! you defintiely wont be dissapointed. Anyways you'll tour the island and see a bunch of different beaches you might wanna visit later instead of just going to waikiki.

Other Travel Tips

The surf is great in Maui.
You can take the hiking trail at Diamond Head. It will be hard if you don't hike regularly, but the views at the top are beautiful.

Go shopping.

The city buses can get you around quite easily and inexpensively if you are on a budget.

You can pay an outrageous amount for a beautiful Hawaiian shirt, or you can go to the Salvation Army and Goodwills on the island and get one for less than $10. You will be supporting recycling and the work of those organizations.

Waikiki has a lot of clubs and restaurants. There are also a few art galleries as well. At the end of Waikiki is the Honolulu zoo and aquarium. One day just walk around Waikiki and see all the different people. Sometimes it's fun to just people watch.
