Do people who live in Hawai'i, not like people from the Mainland?

Travel Tips
I am a non- Hawaiian living in Hawaii, and it all depends on where you live. If you happen to live in some of the more touristy areas, all you'll see are friendly Hawaiians. However, in some cities/ neighborhoods, it seems like all I get are dirty looks. But the vast majority of Hawaiians are awesome, some just ruin it for others. Unless you're military, then almost all Hawaiians hate you. But thats only because the military acts like jackasses on the islands. I don't know why they complain about us leaving our cats here though, we're only providing food for the legions of un-nuetered homeless pitbulls these peope breed.

well, you have the "original" settlers in hawaii, i dont think they like anyone. Then you have the rich people who can afford to go live there, and you know how rude the rich are.
i live in nj, but i think they probably look at people from the mainland as people who are out of touch with thier lifestyle.it is so different. they think they are better cause they live in hi
I live in Hawaii...and I happen to have LOADS of friends on the mainland...we love greeting visitors into our aina!! A lot of people have family on the mainland too...i don't know one person here that hates ALL mainlanders...
Locals don't like pushy, rude or arrogant people. It has nothing to do with geographical origin but rather attitude. The islands are our home and it doesn't make us happy when outsiders come here and disrespect us and our heritage. In the past it was usually rich mainlanders who came to Hawaii and treated the natives condescendingly. Nowadays, I think Hawaiians still resent what happened but also don't really care for the mainlander attitude which people say is "pushy, rude and arrogant." Of course not true for probably most mainlanders but from experience most locals feel this way. So I think it's safe to say most locals are wary and cautious of mainlanders.
I guess it just depends on who you're talking to.

Most people in Hawaii get along with anyone (of any race, religion, or color) but there are some people who are racist (but you'll find that anywhere you go).

Does that answer your question?
Its not that people who live in Hawaii do not like mainlanders, we just do not like their lifestyle and things they do while they are here. Its the same for tourist from anywhere though, not just the mainland.

When you are here, RELAX, take it easy, show respect and you will receive it, do NOT honk your horn - its considered rude, leave the "road rage" back on the mainland, dont litter, respect the culture, and if your a member of the military and have a cat as a pet, when you leave TAKE IT WITH YOU!
