A good place to stay? |
Travel Info I am a college student and well I have been saving up because I need sometime to unwind. I am planning to take a vacation this September and I want to go to Maui I have a decent amount of money but I don't want to go broke over this trip. Where is a good place I can stay that isn't too expensive? ALso I hear there are some beaches where it is locals only so I would probably want to stay away from the area because I could see why the locals would want there own spot. Travel Tips The Maui Beach Hotel in Kihei is quite nice and I don't think it's super expensive. It's right across the street from a great beach -- all of Kihei is beachfront and access is really easy! There are great shops and restaurants too. It's a fun little beach town. There are tourists as well as locals at Kam III (the beach there), so no worries. The person who suggested www.vrbo.com is also right on. If you want to stay in a condo, this is a great choice! Have a great time! Source(s): Aloha :) Other Travel Tips I can't help you with the hotel - I haven't been to Maui. But I was at the Big Island last year, and we did go to some "local's" beaches. They're cool as long as you're respectful. Don't blast music or shoot video tape, don't bring a huge loud group there. If it's just you or a couple people, and you don't ACT like an annoying tourist, I think you'd be fine. By far the best site for rentals is "Vacation Rentals By Owners" vrbo.com. The have hundreds of listings, many of which are at brand name resorts for much less than the going rack rates. Compare and see, I am sure you will find what you are looking for. We always find something to our liking when visiting the islands, or anywhere else for that matter. For a college student I would suggest something on Kaanapali or in Lahaina. The other resort and beach areas are more family oriented. http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/usa... Like the first answerer says, as long as you show respect for the land and the people, you will be fine. If you are still worried, go to the beaches during the workweek, and let the local families have them on the weekend. You may enjoy staying in a hostel instead of a condo or hotel. It's mostly young people and they often have get togethers in the evenings and/or things to do with others your age. Some hostels will pick you up at the airport free, give you free rides to the beach, and take you on free tours of the island. You could stay in one for a few days, and move to a different one on a different part of the island for a few days. A VERY friendly way to enjoy Hawaii. Each of these have a website that you can get to through alternative-hawaii.com.
