Finding Temp Work in Hawaii? |
Travel Info Im thinking of traveling to Hawaii and staying in a hostel for a month or two. I wanted to know the best way to find short term jobs, no more than high school education needed, just run of the mill grocery bagging, ice cream scooper, desk clerk, that kind of thing to make a little cash to pay for the $25 a night and a little extra for eating and traveling around the island. Ive heard of Temp agencies but didn't turn anything up on the search engines. Any help would be appreciated. (Im talking real short term, no serious commitment needed and unfortunately I dont have an exact location yet, but probably Waikiki on Oahu.) Travel Tips I suggest you go to O'ahu. Honolulu is full of temp agencies and lots and lots of jobs. Waikiki has lots of jobs too. Check out Altres employment agency: http://www.altres.com/ Others If your looking for ice creamer scooper type jobs, there are plenty here. Actually there is a big shortage of workers right now in the retail arena....no need for temp agency, just fly down and apply for a job. If your staying at a hostel in the Waikiki area, you can find plenty of jobs at the Ala Moana shopping center. You probably already know about the high cost of living, so most likely you will live on cup noodles....food is very expensive here on Oahu. I sincerely hope that you're not going to count on being able to find a job here to pay for your hotel costs. Hawaii has the lowest unemployment rate in the nation right now and finding may not be as easy as you think it'll be. Especially if you're only talking about staying for a few months. Even if you found a job at a local McDonald's, you won't get paid until at least a couple of weeks after your first day at work. How are you going to pay your rent and eat in that period? There are jobs out there in the retail world but keep in mind that you'll be competing with all the other high school graduates for a small number of jobs. I would suggest you find a job in your hometown until you save up enough money to pay for your vacation in Hawaii in it's entirety. No sense you come to Hawaii for a vacation and have to spend all your day working..... Good luck! www.honoluluadvertiser.com Look under classifieds and call like crazy. If not, when you get here, go to Ala Moana shopping center, closest to Waikiki and apply everywhere. Also, anywhere in Waikiki would be good too since your staying close to there. Good Luck! |
