How is the area near Mt Mauna Loa? |
Travel Info like how the house look or just how the area looks like Travel Tips Anonymous narrow driveway begins off public roadway past thousands of glass shards, two dead D-5 dozers, and rusty barbed wire that looks like entry to a disposal area. The house stands at bottom of burrow pit surrounded by mossy boulders and cobble size stones with upper half of second floor log structure rising above edge of excavation. Crushed black lava forms driveway that snakes through a 'fence' of boulders that with bamboo thickets line perimeter. Drive ends in turning circle beside main structure. Crushed red pumice surrounds structure and basin bottom extent. A few dwarf palms offer scant shade. Utilities are all underground. House interior is Japanese. Floor lighting is indirect, dim, and given to casting shadows. Moving partitions and screens of rice paper in monkeypod wood frames, dark red tile floor, cedar log walls, no carpet. Pink granite 'waterway' with large carp that extends from the interior center through foundation and northwest exterior as trenched into a natural rift in bedrock exposure with seasonal seepage. Illuminated at night by underwater lighting. Tiny kitchen is on south wall behind row of pot grown palms. Stove hood fans waft away all cooking odor. Small pantry. First floor interior air is cool, moist, and woody scented. Second floor has redwood floor, cedar log walls, and glass all around. Interior is bright with track spots or floods as desired. Exterior deck surrounds floor two above brick red roofing tiles from Mexico. Two futons on pine frames, teak wardrobes, mirror ceiling. Sat-dish is on rooftop. Interior air is cool, dry, but subject to more wind effects than lower. The interior stair case is black cast iron spiral. Very solid feel. Lavatory is seperate structure at east exterior combining bathing, toilet, and dressing room that ajoins 20 foot square 12 foot deep plunge pool. This is reached by metal roofed wood lattice walkway atop gray poured concrete between lavatory and main structure. Property is a managed rental and present occupant is senior legal firm partner. Brinks handles the electronic security services. Structures are less than 30 years old. Property when purchased was garbage pit, a public eyesore, and sold for outstanding taxes. Others the area is really pretty. i took a helicopter ride around the mountain/volcano. it was beautiful! |
