Which part of Hawaii is the best place to vacation? |
Travel Info I now that Hawai have a beautyfulI islands. I wanted to go there on December. Travel Tips Each of the Hawaiian Islands has its own personality and character. So, knowing what type of person you are and what you like to do will help you decide which of the islands you will like. If you like tourists and fishing you should like the Kona area of the 鈥淏ig Island鈥?of Hawaii. If you like solitude, a tropical feel, a rural atmosphere and you don鈥檛 mind rain, you should like the Hilo area of the Big Island. The west side of the Big Island has a few nice small beaches, including black sand beaches. Near Ka Lae, the southernmost point of the island you will find a green sand beach. Big beaches are not prevalent on the Big Island. If you enjoy scenery, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking or surfing and don鈥檛 yearn for 鈥渘ight life鈥?then the oldest of the islands, Kauai is for you. If you are the kind of person who keep a bathing suit, snorkel gear or a surfboard in your car, then Maui is for you, because it has 120 miles of easily accessible and swimmable coastline, more than any other island. If you have an artistic temperament or perhaps you like to get away and write, then seek out the island of Lanai. If you love nature, hiking and solitude, then 鈥渢he most Hawaiian鈥?of the islands, Molokai is for you. You鈥檒l enjoy Oahu if you like beaches, shopping, tourists, high-rises, traffic and don鈥檛 mind a lot of other people. Honolulu is like a tropical version of NYC, or LA as it was in the smog-free 1950's. Source(s): "So you Want to Live in Hawaii" by Toni Polancy I have been to Hawaii 4 times and I am working towards relocating there permanently. Other Travel Tips go the "big island" its much prettier than honolulu. also, try going horseback riding up in the mountains! you can touch clouds!! its realllly awesome! also in the big islad, try going snorkeling in little tide pools! its amazing- theres so many fish that dont even seem real because its so beautiful!!! Hi, The two islands I would recommend for a December vacation is Maui and the Big Island Hawaii. They both have a great deal to offer. Maui is really great for Sun and Beaches. Keep in mind that December is the time of year for Big Waves. Follow the Hawaiian code never turn your back on the ocean. Maui will be fun in the sun with cool nights so bring a light jacket. Things to do will very all over the Island. When you arrive pick up the "Maui Gold" booklet it will have a lot of coupons and information on current events all over the island. The town of Hana and the drive is a must for all first timers. The town is very quite, if you go make sure you drive there early to avoid the traffic. Pick up the CD in Phia Town, it's on the way the CD will give you all the hot spots and it will be in mile markers, so you can't miss. You can drive all the wat around the island. The road is fine. Once you reach the seven secret pools you are near the end of the CD. So for the remainder of the trip you will jsut have to enjoy all the sights and the ocean. The volcano of Haleakala is a great tour. If you are up to it I would recommend the bike ride down form the summit parking lot. It's very easy I did it at 61, at the sights, views, and people will be great fun. Now for the Big Island. This is the big island and there is a lot to do. Again pick up "Hawaii Gold" and check out al the events. You can't go wrong on this island. However Hilo is the wettest part of the island. Most activities are around Kona. Visit the active Volcano on the Big Island this will really take you a day or more. If you can pull it off stay at the Volcano, at the Volcano House. This is a great break in your trip and you don't have to rush off and see all the sights in one day you can take your time. Aloha and Mahalo No matter what everyone says, do not go to the Big Island! It's the largest of the eight Hawaiian Islands, and it's almost all lava rock. It's ridiculously dry, and it will take you hours to drive anywhere. One side of the island is always raining, and the other side is a dry desert. It's definitely not worth visiting unless you already live in Hawaii and just want to go there to check it off of your things to do. I would suggest either Maui or Kauai. Maui is great (I'm originally from Maui), but it's becoming quickly populated, just like Oahu. On Maui, you can watch the sun rise from the cold crater at Haleakala, then bike down the mountain with a guided group: a really thrilling experience. The beaches are beautiful, and there's lots to do in Lahaina and Kaanapali. Hana town is also wonderful in its raw natural beauty and range of things to do, with a long scenic road that will reward you for enduring the seeminly endless turns and humps (not good if you're prone to roadsickness). However, hotels are really expensive, and there's quite a lot of people. Kauai is quickly becoming one of the most exotic vacation spots in the world and recently earned several awards as a top tourist vacation spot. The awe-inspiring Waimea Canyon has some excellent trails that tell a tale of the age and wisdom of the land. There are several kayaking excursion that take you down rivers and through green and blue waters in caves, grottos and waterfalls. The beaches are excellent, and small towns offer some unique shopping. Helicopter touring is another option that could help you experience the sights from the sky. Kauai is not as populated as the other islands, and the locals are really nice. I reccommend going to Kauai. Talk to your hotel consierge before coming to the island, and he or she will help you plan a trip full of fun. Hope this helps. And don't waste your time on the Big Island. The hassles really outweigh the good that the island has to offer. http://www.kauaidiscovery.com/ http://www.visitmaui.com I have only been to Maui and Kauai. Kauai was extraordinary beautiful. Lush in a word. It seemed quiet and laid back. It was all the tradition that I expected. Food was good. Just the right balance of places to shop, dine and sight-see. I took a helicopter ride and it was indescribable. Maui was also beautiful. The shopping area was nice - seemed more confined and the dining seemed more commercialized (Hard Rock and Bubba Gumps - both good tho). With just having gone to those - I would say Kauai. I went in December and January. You will need a sweater at night. Aloha! |
