Which Hawaii island is the best to visit? |
Travel Info Not much into the club scene. We would like to see natural beauty and culture, good restuarants and hotels. Not all silly t-shirt stores and gift shops. lol. :) I know how some places can be way too touristy. A little is ok, but my main goal is to see the natural beauty of Hawaii. Suggestions? Travel Tips Each of the Hawaiian Islands has its own personality and character. So, knowing what type of person you are and what you like to do will help you decide which of the islands you will like. If you like tourists and fishing you should like the Kona area of the 鈥淏ig Island鈥?of Hawaii. If you like solitude, a tropical feel, a rural atmosphere and you don鈥檛 mind rain, you should like the Hilo area of the Big Island. The west side of the Big Island has a few nice small beaches, including black sand beaches. Near Ka Lae, the southernmost point of the island you will find a green sand beach. Big beaches are not prevalent on the Big Island. If you enjoy scenery, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking or surfing and don鈥檛 yearn for 鈥渘ight life鈥?then the oldest of the islands, Kauai is for you. If you are the kind of person who keep a bathing suit, snorkel gear or a surfboard in your car, then Maui is for you, because it has 120 miles of easily accessible and swimmable coastline, more than any other island. If you have an artistic temperament or perhaps you like to get away and write, then seek out the island of Lanai. If you love nature, hiking and solitude, then 鈥渢he most Hawaiian鈥?of the islands, Molokai is for you. You鈥檒l enjoy Oahu if you like beaches, shopping, tourists, high-rises, traffic and don鈥檛 mind a lot of other people. Honolulu is like a tropical version of NYC, or LA as it was in the smog-free 1950's. Source(s): "So You Want to Live in Hawaii" by Toni Polancy I have been to HI 4 times and I am working towards relocating there permanently. Other Travel Tips If you want natural rainforests and quiet beaches, Kauai is the way to go. If you're more into volcanos, the Big Island is where you want to be. Both have good restaurants and hotels. Maui has some nice natural beauty like Haleakala volcano and rainforests but it may be too touristy for your liking. Any island should be a great place to visit, EXCEPT Oahu. Oahu accounts for about 80% of the Hawaiian population and the other 20% is distributed amongst the other islands. However, if you decide to visit Oahu, traveling the North end of the island is the way to go. During my trip there, the guide said 80% of Hawaii's population is in Waikiki and the immediate surrounding areas. I believe every island has something to offer that will be a spectacular adventure! Take a car and drive outside the "box". You'll find many outstanding gems! Whatever you decide, enjoy! oahu Kauai is definitely the natural gem of the islands. Known as the Garden Isle - it offers enough natural beauty to last forever. Check out the Resortquest Islander for beachfront accommodations. Car rentals are best booked in advance and helicopter rides are more scenic on this island in my opinion. Great beaches abound. Aloha! I personally would suggest Kauai and the Big Island. Maui is beautiful, but a bit touristy in my opinion. On the Big Island though depending on the part you stay in will determine if you have a beach or not. I stayed at one this last week without a beach on the big islands and at night walked out to watch the Manta Rays feed. It was beautiful! I would highly recommend working with a travel specialist. They can ask you various questions to help determine not only which islands they feel are best for you, but hotel as well to ensure as best as possible what you are looking for you get! By the way, don't go to Oahu, unless you want to see say Pearl Harbor otherwise that is it! I am glad I saw it, but won't ever go back to Honolulu. Just a big city, to many people and all high rise hotels! |
