Travel Info buildings that are destroyed? lives lost? Any kind of devestation Travel Tips Kulani prison was the structure that the 84 Mauna Loa flow came closest to, some 3.2 km. Hilo was the next one but the flow stopped before getting any closer. It destroyed some native hawaiian forests and I think the biggest threats was the fountains of lava and the exploding methane gas as the flow approaced hilo.
