Is it true that milk costs $6 and orange juice costs $9 in Hawaii? |
Travel Info Is it true that milk costs $6 and orange juice costs $9 in Hawaii? Travel Tips I live in Honolulu and no that is not true. I shop both at regular grocery stores and at the military commissary. At a regular grocery store, milk is listed at about $7 a gallon, but no one ever pays that much because all the stores have those discount cards similar to the Safeway club card. So it really sells for about $4.50 a gallon. On base it's about $3.75 a gallon. Orange juice is not $9 either. It's about the same as milk. Gas is really expensive though. On Maui it's about $3.85 a gallon right now. Others I wouldn't be surprised, from what I hear normally menial items like those are very expensive over there. Think about it, everything has to be shipped or flown, which are by far the most expensive transportation methods. Orange juice $6 to $7 a gallon. Milk $4 a half gallon. http://www.foodland.com/liquid/in_our_st... http://www.foodland.com/liquid/in_our_st... http://shop.safeway.com/superstore/sixfr... It's true. Milk runs about $6/gallon while OJ runs about $7/gallon. Since both milk and OJ aren't produced locally in mass quantities, they have to be "imported." Sorry..... Lifelong resident of Hawaii If you can find it on sale, yes Usually more. But hey, people spent $0.98 for a pint of water or $3.00 for 12 oz of coffee at Starbucks. |
