Travel Info Most popular hawaiin island for tourists? Travel Tips Of course, Honolulu gets the most traffic and there's plenty to see and do there. Many folks love Maui, it's the #2 destination with the Big Island coming in 3rd. But the real gem is Kauai if you want to be in a more relaxed atmosphere surrounded by beauty and nature. I was born in Kona, on the Big Island but grew up in Honolulu. If you really know your way around, Oahu is wonderful but most tourists get stuck in Waikiki and don't get out and around nearly enough. Others They're all popular but Oahu has the most (since it holds the capital city of Honolulu). Lifelong resident of Hawaii The most popular is Oahu. I personally like Maui better. It's more quaint. I think that Kauai is the most beautiful of all the islands. If you get a chance, take a tour of the Na Pali Coast. Maui Baby!!! Of course it's Oahu, because that is where the International Airport is and also most direct flights from the mainland go to Oahu. BUT, I think Oahu is the least desirable and least "Hawaiian" feeling for tourists, because it's a city island. The second most popular is Maui, because it has both development and full of beauty. It's layed back, and still has things for people to do in terms of shopping and also tons of places to see like the Haleakala mountain at sunrise and the Iao Valley, not to mention Hana. (That is the island I would recommend for tourists) Kauai is beautiful, but there are alot of other islands that are just as lovely or more and not developed. Lanai and Molokai have the lowest population of the island chain and therefore don't have as much development. In fact I think (I'm not sure) they both only have one hotel that is active, but they have the natural beauty, especially Molokai, which has the largest Native Hawaiian population in the islands. The Big Island (aka. Hawaii) is beautiful too, it is the island which has the active volcanos is the largest of the islands. If you want a to experience a volcano I recommend the Big Island, the lava tubes and the volcano park is so awesome. Bottom line, each island has something different, but to answer your question, the most popular island and the island that attracts the most visitors is Oahu. |
