I love Hawaii and visiting it for a second time next year...and i am jealous of any one that actually lives in that beautiful place!

i was born and raised in Hawaii. Lived there for close to 30 yrs almost. I agree that its a nice place to live but you do get island fever. I had to leave the state at least once a year cuz you do feel a little confined. I live the San Francisco Bay area now and love it.

I resent ocobride's comment about the locals being rude and uneducated. Just like any other place in the U.S. you will have different types of people. If you're in one area, the demographics may change. One town in the country may be low-income and they may not have the same opportunities as say upper income families living in Honolulu. I have a Master's degree, and have friends who are lawyers and successful businessmen living in Hawaii. Are we all stupid too just because we come from Hawaii? Please. Get a clue. If she experienced any rudeness its probably her attitude. If you have that New York or L.A. "I'm better than you" attitude instead of trying to assimilate into the local culture, of course people are going to be rude back to you. Its probably because she is already projecting that attitude that everyone in Hawaii is dumb. But, what do I know. I'm just a simple sap from Hawaii, right?

I do.. been here 20 years now..
I love it.
When I first moved here my "plan" didn't work out, I ended up homelless on the beach for 2 years, finally got a job at the sugar mill, worked there 2 years then got a great job being sent to all the islands for work.
I also lived in Maui 4 years.

i do. i also use to live in mexico. it is just as good.

if you are a tourist the absolute best place to go is to go to the hilton hotel in cancun mexico!

live here.. and im over it.. my husband is stationed here at kaneohe bay (oahu). i visited 5x and then we got married home in NJ and i moved out here to join him in february. yes its pretty and there is great weather, however the locals are generally RUDE, slow and very undereducated. It is a great place to vacation to enjoy the sunny beaches, and beautiful scenery. However it gets small QUICK.. i know many who feel the same. - even locals. i work at an insurance company in honolulu, and one of the gals just visited TX for the first time she'd ever been to the mainland in 25yrs of live and was in AWE.. she's looking to get off the islands now
