Why do people have swimming pools in Hawaii? |
Travel Info I was looking at Hawaii on Google Earth and I noticed a bunch of homes right on the coast, with swimming pools. Is there a reason these people swim in pools as opposed to the ocean? Travel Tips Those are probably wealthy people that can afford it and probably didn't worry about the cost of it, but that is an assumption. But to answer your question as to why, well...why not? People in California and Florida have pools even though they live by the coast, so the same logic would apply to those. Personally, if I had the option to have a pool I would, even if I live close to the ocean in Hawaii, because: 1) If I don't want sand all in my bikini...a pool would solve that. 2) I just want to do some laps without waves especially if the surf is peaking 3) If I have kids a pool is more controlled and managable. Also easier to keep an eye on them if so. 4) I really don't want to be around people or see anyone. (Personally, sometimes I get antisocial) Also...I can do stupid things like handstands and flips and no one will see.... 5) Salty water versus pool water....personally it hurts less to get pool water in your eyes then salty water especially if sand gets in your eye (x.o) 6) I can dive and jump in a pool and I can't do that at the beach. 7) There was a shark spotting near my house and they closed the beach, but I really want to swim. 8) I have a pool! I can lay on my back on a floaty bed and relax and not have to worry about drifting out to see (unless...say there was a tsunami, no jinx) 9) Naked swimming at night ;) lol...or just swimming at night. It's a lot safer in a pool. Hope I answered you question ^^ Source(s): Lifelong Resident of Hawaii Also, I had to housesit someones house and they were super rich, so even though the beach was a short walk away I took advantage of the pool. Other Travel Tips Because of the organisms in the ocean. why not have a pool? its part of waterfront living When you have enough money you can have your swimming pool, tennis court, jacuzzi and beach front property. There are times when we get box jellyfish and swimming in the ocean isn't recommended. Some people prefer a pool over the ocean Some people prefer swimming pools over the ocean (privacy factor, ocean has the salty taste to it (I had some in my mouth and hated it), no fish in your swimming pool (stingrays, etc). |
