Hawaii..race demographics? |
Travel Info How are the racial demograhpics in hawaii?.Are there more native hawaiians or more white people living in hawaii. Where do most native live in Hawaii? Travel Tips The real "native Hawaiians" mostly live on the island of Niihau, as only Hawaiians can live or even visit there. We are a multi-cultural state, with most races being able to be found here. Surprisingly, I think the Philippino race has the most population on Oahu anyway. Others There is no one place that native hawaiians live. They live all over these islands. Some even live on the mainland! As far as race demographics, we probably have every race living here that we know about. Name one and we probably have it here! That's why they call us the "melting pot of the Pacific" Native Hawaiian to Haoles (white people).....that's a hard one to call........there are definately more of other races than haoles here. Hope that helps.... What about NIihau? umm its more ordinary to jus call them hawaiians. but yeahh they live all over. and we have everything probably. I wouldn't doubt for one minute, that on Hawaiian islands, there is every race, color, and creed! That is why it is sooooo wonderful to visit there. People do not judge you there upon your race or your nationality. It is part of the aloha spirit there. aloha dnice, I hope this helps you out. I'm very sorry for the length.. I just love to share!! Being that I respect & have love for my Hawaiian culture & have love for my home Islands (Hawaii). I just found out that there are 5,000 pure Native Hawaiians left through out Hawaii. Also be aware that our Hawaiian culture is thriving!! We have schools within our Hawaiian Islands that offer education to our Native Hawaiian children. They soon may disappear because Hawaii is America many are saying our schools such as Kamehameha School is unfair to non Hawaiian children. However this school is still here because of the Will our Hawaiian Princess created & founded. So thanks to our Senator Daniel Akaka, he created a bill that will say to America that our Hawaiian people are indigenous people just like the Native Alaskans & Native Indians. This Bill will help our Hawaiian people. I hope Congress passes it!! I just found out another true fact 2 weeks ago. I heard this from a Native Hawaiian that grew up in California: That there are more Hawaiians living in California rather than Hawaii. You'll also find Hawaiians along the westcoast of the U.S as well as Las Vegas area. This is because Hawaii is tremendously expensive. Ever since Hawaii became Modernized everything within Hawaii has become expensive. THe cost of living is too high to bare. So many of our Native Hawaiians are choosing to live elsewhere beyond Honolulu, O`ahu. This is because Hawaii is known to cater more towards the tourists, the military, new developments..high cost homes, high cost condos, high cost apartments & hotels. Dnice Hawaii is slowly losing it's aloha (love & kindness) because of this. You need to also blame the drugs that is ruining our Natives & local residents too. On the Island of O`ahu many of our Native Hawaiians are living away from the city life. They rather live out in the country area of O`ahu. Plus handfuls of our own people (Native Hawiians) can't tolerate the high cost of living so they become homeless living out on the beaches with their families, this is found on the west part (Waianae) of the Island of O`ahu. Also you'll find many more Native Hawaiians on the outer Islands (Molokai, Maui, Big Island, Kauai, Lanai). On our forfidden Island called Ni`ihau there are only pure Hawaiians that live there. The Robinson family owns this Island. It's marked forbidden so no tourist, Hawaii locals could visit there. Unless you are granted permission. They want to keep the Island pure. That is the only Island that speaks the Hawaiian language.. which could probably be our lost Hawaiian language, I'm not sure.. but I believe it is. dnice, there are handfuls of ethnicities across the Hawaiian Islands.I am a Native Hawaiian but I have 5 other ethnicities. Which my mix came from the Plantation Sugarcane days back in the mid 1800s. Also I got my mix from the Missionaries back in the 1800s. So Hawaii is also diverse. Mahalo (thank you) for asking this question. Everyone else's answers are awesome too!! aloha The best source to read about our Hawaiian people is called "Then there were none" by Martha H. Noyes. |
