Has anybody experienced the MENAHOONIES in Hawaii? |
Travel Info Menahoonies (not sure if it's spelled right) are legendary Hawaiian type leprachans that are known to play jokes and people. They also like to spy on you to "check you out". Travel Tips Aloha MelissaJ, No I haven't experienced a menehune. I was always told about them from my Hawaiian elders. I was also taught about them in Hawaiian classes while growing up in Hawaii. Hawaii has many ghost happenings.. like the Night marchers, Volcano Goddess Pele, choking ghost to name a few. However, I did experience a choking ghost twice when I first moved into our new apartment back in Honolulu, Hawaii. That was about 15 years ago. Very spooky!! Trust me I have spooked many out by my true experience. I spook myself & my husband out whenever I share my experience with others. I can tell you this, Hawaii is known to be very haunted. The best stories to hear it from is Hawaiian Elders, Local residents who experienced strange things around the Islands or the best true reading books about Hawaii ghost is "Chicken Skin" Glenn Grant is the best author!! My grandpa did encounter our volcano goddess Pele. This was back in the 1940s while he was in the Army doing a duty assignment out at Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawaii. There is a road that is close to our Active Volcano. He actually did stop to try to offer a ride knowing it was her. Being that he was out in the middle of nowhere late at night. Here standing before him was a exotic looking Hawaiian girl. She dissappeared in front of his eyes. Whenever my Grandma told us (her Grandchildren) this story.. you can see the spooks in her face. Because it happened to her husband of course. My Grandma always had respects for our Volcano Goddess Pele. She's totally real!! I heard few more scarier true experiences. Growing up in Hawaii the best stories to hear was true experiences of ghost happenings around Hawaii. I miss those days!! Others No, I have never experienced a MENAHOONIE, but no, they do not play jokes on people, they help you out. And no, they are not leprachans, they are all shapes and sizes, just like normal people. I don't know where you got your source, but it is incorrect. Where did you hear that from??? They are spirits, not leprachans! You have to be very careful of these beings. Menehunes are everywhere.......they can appear anywhere at anytime! menehune are also known for being industrious workers, and are said to have built things like fishponds overnight. i have never heard a story about then checking anyone out. growing up hawaiian |
