Does Hawaii have ghettos? |
Travel Info And is it true that the cost of living there is expensive? How much is a one-bedroom apartment? Travel Tips Like any city, Honolulu is as diverse and has it's fair share of troubled areas due to housing shortages, outrageous cost of housing, high cost of living. One bedroom apartments can rent anywhere from about $700 to $2000 per month depending on the location and size. There are cheaper units but you're really getting into some areas of town that have high crime. Balance what you want to do, where you want to work, and how much you can afford. Check out the local news on www.starbulletin.com or www.honoluluadvertiser.com for more details on good and challenges in Hawaii. Others yup everywhere has ghettos Aloha Leilanibabyblu 206, I could only speak about O`ahu. Growing up all my life within Honolulu many of us locals consider certain areas ghetto. Understand, Hawaii is nothing compared to the ghetto out in certain areas of the States where there is drive by shootings all the time & the entire neighborhood is totally run down. In Hawaii what we call ghetto is run down apartments because they are old, drug dealings, fights, certain locals wanting to start something with you because you're not from that area (neighborhood) & also gangs. Hawaii has it's bloods, crips, Samoan gangs, Asian gangs..etc. All this run down neighborhoods through out my home Island O`ahu resulted from high cost of living & Hawaii being too Modern. Many of our Hawaiians, Polynesians, Asians can't keep up with Modern Hawaii. Hawaii has drastically changed over decades to attract more tourist, rich people, Business people, the Japanese tourist. O`ahu rely heavily on the Military & tourism to keep our Islands Economy going. I know we're the 50th State but.. It's our local residents & Hawaiian people that are suffering. Prices for apartments varies.. renting is very high & honestly the square footage for an apartment or condo is not worth it. Depends on your career.. in order to survive living in Hawaii you need at least 2 jobs & if you manage your money well you'll be fine. Aloha to you!! What I witnessed growing up for 31 years of my life. There are "rough" area's yes as any city has. Housing is hard to find anything reasonable, it took me 2 months of almost daily checking to find my place. $850/mo 1 bdrm in a nice area. Anything less was a piece of crap, plus there were always about 20 others looking at the same unit as I was so it is very hard to get one. Maybe the $1500 month range may be easier but I can't afford that. Aloha http://honoluluadvertiser.com/ Everywhere there are ghettos! Doesn't matter what state you go to, you will find "bad sections"!!! The cost of living, is expensive, but if you plan your buget wisely, you can live there! You don't have to rent the most expensive place, but you don't want to rent in the ghetto either! |
