Where to stay around houston but not in houston? |
Travel Info Will be in texas for 8 days and have two days that we don't have any plans for? What would be a good town to check out within a 100 miles or so of Houston? We are up for anything: old (ghost towns, museums), fun, whatever....? Thanks all! Travel Tips Galveston would be your best bet. Pretty inexpensive this time of year and only about 45 minutes south of Houston. The beach will probably be warm enough to walk on, and you can stop at Kemah on the way back and enjoy that as well. Lots of fun. The strand has older shops and is connected to a trolley system that will take you around on a tour of the island...all the way from downtown to the beach/seawall! Mmody Gardens is great, and then there's the Schlitterbahn water park for the kids (or the fun adults). Here's a link to all galvenston has to offer: http://www.galveston.com/default.asp... Kemah has restaurants and rides galore and has a carnival-type atmosphere. A must see for tourists. Link: http://www.kemahboardwalk.com/ Hope this helps!!! Others You could go south to Galveston. There is some creepy ghost stuff there. sugarland and missouri city they have creepy cemeteries and such! For water, Lake Conroe is great north of the city, for beach, Galveston, but it gets old fast, but not within 2 days, try the Tremont Hotel or Hotel Galvez. Most of the museums, etc are in the city in the museum district, but Google the handbook of Texas online to see probably every historical museum in the area. For a great time out in a small town with lots of history, in the piney wood is a little town called Woodville, TX. They have all you were asking about. The best place to stay is Kemah Boardwalk. It is really nice not alot of people and lots of attractions for both adults and kids. Its really the only place that is nice around here and sometimes they have live music I think you will love it. Hope this helps. Have a great time! I'd be headed north to Lake Conroe. Lots of water activities and heavily wooded. I really like the area. The problem with Galveston at this time is spring breakers. They'll be there until the first of April. No fun being around a bunch of drunken teenagers. |
