The area code for the Houston area? |
Travel Info The area code for the Houston area? Travel Tips The City of Houston uses three. There's the original, 713, which used to encompass all of southeast Texas. Then there is 281 and 832 (832 is almost exclusively for cell phones). Venturing farther out to say, Conroe you get area code 936. Going south to Galveston moves you to area code 409, which was the first split of the 713 code back in 1982. Then there's 979, up around College Station (also used to be 713, then 409) and down to Lake Jackson. So, all told there are three in the City of Houston and six for what is greater Houston. EDIT to Lisa, above: 972 is Dallas and an overlay of 214. Others url:usps.com 713 281 832 There are at least 4 (I've heard they are expanding to 6 soon). 713,281,832 are the most popular. There are others in the Houston area once you get outside of the proper area. If you get a phone number in the houston area, they should give you the area code. We use 10 digit dialing -- so you need it. 713, 281, 832, possibly 936 or 409? We used to have 409 but they changed it a while back. 936 is used a bit more north of Houston. There are 6... 713, 281, 832, 972, 979 & 409 713, 281, 832, and (in Galveston County and points east of Kemah Bay) 409 |
