What are some sites to see in Galveston, Texas? |
Travel Info I have every intention of visiting the Gulf of Mexico, is there something else I should see? Travel Tips There is lot to do in Galveston, really depends on your tastes. Most people are very friendly(except for Aj) and can tell where to go to for your tastes. There is the 1894 Grand Opera house that a lot of diferent performers play at. Bernadette Peters was there this weekend. There is the area of Galveston called the Strand consisting of great food and shopping in a historic area like Bourbon Street in New Orleans. At night the bars come alive with live music. At the Port there are at least three different cruise ships, sometimes four. You can also tour an actual deep sea oil rig or take a bay cruise to watch the Harbor dolphins that live there year round. There is some great seafood restaurants to eat at. Guido's is the old stand by but can be pricey. Ask about them when you get here. The Confederate Air Force often has WW2 vintage aircraft housed at Scholes Field. The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network often has a dolphin or two in rehab at Texas A&M. They will let the public see them and you may be able to sign up for a shift to get into the tank with the dolphin and help care for it. Then you have Moody Gardens which can be found on the net. A water park. The Seawall that was built after the great storm(hurricane). The fleet of shrimp boats( the mosquito fleet). Deep Sea fishing excursions. The train museum. Tours of the Bishop's Palace(historical building) and several others. Tram rides. Amphibious vehicle rides. Dinner cruises on Offats Bayou. The Flagship Hotel, over the warm waters of the Gulf. Dining over the Gulf. Pier fishing complete with pole and tackle rental. Free ferry service to Bolivar Peninsula(a free 40 minute boat ride, round trip, suggest park it and walk on). Tour the Seawolf submarine at Seawolf park. Rent a 4 wheeled bicycle cart that seats 4 and ride it on the Seawall. Rollerskate,rollerblade,walk, or jog along the Seawall at sun up. See the Volcano at the Rainforest Cafe. Go swimming in the Gulf(they have lifeguards)........ Others http://www.galveston.com/attractions/... Nothing but wannabe Long Islanders. |
