Travel Tips
1. Conroe is about 30 minutes just North of Houston. If your a nurse and working at the Hospital you will either be at the (huge)County Hospital in Conroe thats I-45 and the first loop 336 exit (go left under the freeway) Hospital entrance up on the right about 1/10th mile. OR St. Lukes that's more in The Woodlands, it's located at I-45 & 242.....closer to the Woodlands, but they consider it Conroe (the post office)...

2. On the way to Conroe you will go through The Woodlands, which is about 15 minutes from Conroe (very affluent area, with homes in the Millions); The Woodlands Mall; River walk; Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavillion (Huge Name concerts are held here); Waterway Marriott;;;;Lots of Eating places Landry's (One of Beyonce's fav's)/CheeseCake Factory/La Madeline/Johnny Rocket's/Tommy Bahama's/P.F. Changs....shopping around the mall; Target/Toys r' Us/Bed bath and beyond/Marshall's/Best Buy/Ulta/Ross/24 Hour Fitness/Swoozies/Luke's Locker/Borders/Barnes & Noble....etc....

3. It's a mid-size town, not real small probably about 32000 population.
4. Different Exits in Conroe.....and what you'll find.
Coming into Conroe

1st Exit Loop 336 you'll find:
Taco Cabana = Mexican food w/a texas twist.
Main Event = like Chuckee Cheese (just bigger)
Kroger
Blockbuster
Some fairly new apt's next to the shopping center.

2nd exit Hwy 105:
You'll find Target/Home Depot/Office Supply/Catherines/Panera Beard/Chick-fil-a/Whataburger/... King/Luby's/Costume Shop/High School/Tatoo Parlor/Town Square (all the official offices for the county found here)/ Fire Sale (not much to look at, but awesome prices) located at 105 & Frazier next to Sonic/Banks also, Chase, Washington Mutual, Wells Fargo/Show Gun - Japanese Habache Grill / Golds Gym/ And last but surely not the least Lake Conroe....very very nice.

3rd exit the second Loop 336:
You will find Old movie theatre/Hobby Lobby/Krogers/Mcdonalds/Whatab... King/Walmart/Dollar Store/Tuesday Morning/Academy/Ryan's SteakHouse/Margarita's/HEB/Cap... One Bank/Cimmaron Apartments/OReaves Elementary/Casa Ole'

League Line Road:
Outlet Name Brand Mall
Wendy's
Cracker Barrell
And New Giant Movie Theatre.

There's a large white, black and spanish population so it is culturally diverse. April Sound is a very nice community on Lake Conroe with security guard entrance. If you keep going about about 20-30 minutes toward Dallas you will come into Huntsville some of Sam Houston State University and the Huntsville State Pen (prison, famous deathrow)

Well Conroe is about 45 minutes north of Downtown Houston, there really arent any high paying jobs out there, but since you're a nurse you could try getting a job at the hospital. But the towns of the Woodlands and Spring have much more to offer. The Woodlands in about 10 minutes from Conroe, and Spring is about 10 minutes from the Woodlands.
hi
well there isnt a lot of good paying jobs here but if you move to the woodlands you have a better oppertunity there. but if you are a nurse then you really want to move to the woodlands and work at one of the hospitals. The Woodlands is maybe 5 mins from Conroe. The weather is good i guess. Cold during the winter VERY HOT during the summer. People are really nice here but in the woodlands sometimes the can be a little stuck up..
Hope you find what you are looking for.
There are tons of nursing jobs in the area. I live about 15 min south in Spring and know 5 nurses in my neighborhood (all of whom were recruited from out of state/overseas). You may want to move further south (Spring, Humble, Noth Houston) to be closer to the jobs as traffic from Conroe is murder.
I am a Texas home grown girl. Born and raised in Houston Texas. My grandmother has lived in Conroe Texas for the last 50 years of her life. Conroe is a small town and the part that my grandmother lives in is called Panorama Village. I have spent many Holidays there as a child. Panorama village is a golfing community in Conroe built around a beautiful golf coarse and lake. I am 38 now and have visited just recently. The community is still gorgeous. The people are very friendly. It is quiet and clean. The schools are great and the people there are very proud of their community. I also had my nails done there once and had a great experience. Very friendly sweet people. I hope your experience is as great as my childhood growing up around Conroe was.
I live in Willis which is just a few miles north of Conroe. You don't state where you are moving from, nor is your location listed on your profile. Just be prepared for time to adjust to the humidity. It can take it's toll on you, but after about a year, you'll acclimate and should have no problems. Other than the humidity, and a couple months of intense heat (I love all the trees we have in Montgomery County that provide great cool shade), the rest of the year is great.
Others on here have suggested The Woodlands which is nice, but the average housing costs are higher than Conroe. For jobs in the medical field, the greater Houston area is awesome for that.
As to where to live, there are lots of options. If your prefer denser populated areas, The Woodlands is excellent for that. If you want a college community, you might look at Huntsville which is just 30 minutes north of Conroe. If you want rural, there are plenty of options to the north, east, and west. And if you want a small country town where everyone knows everyone, look at Montgomery, just about 10-12 miles west of Conroe. There is a beautiful lake for boating and recreation between Conroe and Montgomery. It's a great place to live with a vacation like atmosphere year round.
Have fun, and say hi on my 360 when you get a chance.
Its redneck.
