Travel Info In Texas state highway 249 was once State Highway 149. Why was it changed to Statehighway 249? Travel Tips No, State Highway 249 was once FM 149, a farm-to-market road. In fact, if you take 249 out to it's end (in Pinehurst), it branches into two farm roads, 1448 and 149. 149 runs north through Montgomery, then goes west through Richards, then Anderson, then ends abruptly where it intersects FM 3090 just north of Navasota. So, the road number was changed when it became a State Highway. It became 249 because a highway called 149 already existed in East Texas, and had existed since the 1930s. The 249 designator was named back in 1982, but didn't become official until 1988. STATE HIGHWAY NO. 249 Minute Order 87493, 6-28-88; Minute Order 88009, 10-28-88; Adm.
