Question about Texas State Highway Beltway 8? |
Travel Info y'all know that in this tollway, there are several station where drivers are to pay $1.25, but i am kinda confused about the system, 'cause there are about 4 those stations in a row, do i have to pay $1.25 for everyone of them appear on the tollway or just one?? Travel Tips Correct, they tap you $1.25 for each station - plus maybe a bit more when you get off the toll road. Most locals get an EZTag and they breeze thru w/o stopping - the get charged electronically. If you breeze thru w/o an EZTag they will photo your car and track you down to mail you a ticket. They say. Part of Beltway 8 is not the Sam Houston Tollroad, ans is actually free. That woudl be the far east side. Others Each time you come to a toll plaza, yes, you have to pay new toll. You have to pay $1.25 each time you come through the toll plaza. Most people who get an Ez tag still have to pay, but I beleive EZ tag will give a slight discount to those drivers with EZ tag. People who have gone through the toll plaza without paying, have had their license plates photograpfed. the they hunt you down. They stuff you on the wall for not paying. Very nasty stuff. Pay the toll and live well yes u have 2 stop and pay @ each one of them but a EZ tag is easier(well duh) & faster I live in Houston & the tolls are not all $1.25. Some are only 75c (like the exits). Buy a tollway pass - TX tag - and you won't feel the pain as much! The major toll plazas (the ones that go all the way across) are $1.25. There is one between I-45 North and 249. There is one just south of 290. There is one between Briar Forest and Memorial. There is one between 288 and Almeda There is one between I-45 South and 288 near S. Wayside. There is one between I-45 South and Genoa Red Bluff. They cost one dollar each if you have EZ-Tag/Texas Tag. In addition you don't have to wait in line with the rest of those with change (or needing change). There is also a toll plaza on the south side of the ship channel bridge. It costs two bucks, but only $1.50 with the tollway tag. There are also entrances and exits where you might have to pay tolls as well. Those amounts increase as you get closer to the six main toll plazas and bridge plaza, and are cheapest in between them. This is done so drivers don't exit early to save something like 50 cents, but also block traffic on the frontage roads. Yes, I've known about this tollway since before it was a tollway. In various areas of town back in the late 70s and early 80s were purple signs that said, "Future location of the Sam Houston Tollway." The most prominent one was on the fence of the Dresser Rand Company's property at "West Belt" (what it was known as then) and Westheimer, where it ended. Friends of mine had to move because the city exercised "eminent domain" and bought their parent's houses to make room for the tollway (at Memorial Drive) back in 1982. |
