Appartments and Safety around Houston (Greenspoint)? |
Travel Info I will be interning around the Greenspoint area of Houston, TX. I am having a difficult time finding a place to stay since I am not familiar with the safe/clean areas. Where is a good area close enough to Greenspoint, but still safe, that is worth looking into? I appreciate your help! Travel Tips I would definitely not live in Greenspoint if I were you. It is a great area to work in during the day because there are several businesses in the area, but it is a very dangerous place to be at night. Don't be fooled by the large number of cheap apartment complexes in Greenspoint (there is a reason they are so cheap!) Spring is a suburb of Houston that is about 10-15 minutes away from Greenspoint and is a great place to live. The 1960 area is pretty close to Greenspoint as well and is a nice area to live in. There are several apartment complexes up and down the 1960 area, but be warned that 1960 is a VERY long street and if you want to stay closer to Greenspoint you will need to stay closer to I-45. Good luck! Edit: Spring Branch is pretty far from Spring. Spring Branch is located in the west area of Houston, while Spring is a north suburb of Houston. I would not reccommend living in Spring Branch if you are going to work in Greenspoint. That is a pretty good drive and there are a lot of areas in Spring Branch that are pretty bad. Others uhh by greenspoint mall in those hotels if its just for a while but there are apartments by greenspoint mall that are pretty safe also go check them out You want to move to "Gunspoint"? Just kidding. The Greenspoint area has a higher crime rate than less populated area of the city. On the plus side they're crime of choice is car theft. The SouthWest around the Chimney Rock - Gulfton area leads the city in violent crime and murders. But I digress, the condense living and relatively low average income (especially in some of the apartments), make the area conducive to crime. On the plus side, the most reported crime, like I said earlier, is car theft (a property crime). I don't know if this helps but it is what it is. I guess people here think they're tough just because of the the crime in Houston. There's some nice apartments just north of Greenspoint right off the interstate highway. been here for a yr. and a half. I work in Greenspoint and commute from The Woodlands each day. It is 20-30 minute commute depending on the traffic. I have worked in Greenspoint going on 4 years and have not seen or heard of anything bad happening here. I even go to the mall for lunch occasionally and still nothing bad. Maybe it gets bad at night time. Daytime is full of business professionals working, going to lunch and shopping. There are several apartments in Spring as a few in The Woodlands. http://www.moveforfree.com/apartments/te... Good Luck I recently relocated to Houston Texas. I have been fortunate in finding safe, affordable housing. I first stayed in the West Houston area (I-10 & Dairy Ashford) but recently relocated to the Northwest area (290 & Jones Rd) because I am a female living alone safety was a major factor in picking a place to live. Although there are several nice apartment complexes in the area I did not depend on that to help me locate a prime spot. After searching around I settled on several complexes and looked them up on the internet. There is a comment section where you can find out about the cleanliness as well as security on any given apartment complex. I also telephoned the police substation in the area to find out which complexes had a higher incidence of burglaries, car thefts, violent crimes, etc. Lastly I went online and conducted a predator check, for sex offenders. This along with the information I received on line helped me make an informed decision as to the apartment community that I would call home. While it is impossible to live in this huge city without being affected by crime, you can take the steps to insure your own safety by doing your homework. I said all that to say, I live in the 290/Jones Rd area and I am quite comfortable with this part of town. Good luck with your search and let us know how you come out. |
