Population of houston texas vs. dallas texas? |
Travel Info Population of houston texas vs. dallas texas? Travel Tips Infoplease has a lot of information / comparisons for the top 50 cities. For the 2005 census data (estimated): 2,016,582 Houston (4th biggest city 1,213,825 Dallas (9th biggest city) 1,256,509 San Antonio (7th biggest city) FYI -- I included San Antonio as well. Many people don't realize that it is now bigger than Dallas, and has more growth potential due to the large amount of unincorporated area around it. Others Population of Houston which is the fourth largest city in the U.S. is estimated at: 1,630,553 Population of Dallas which is the ninth largest city in the U.S. is estimated at: 1,188,580 Handbook of Texas online Houston in larger than Dallas, however the Dallas-Fort Worth "Metroplex" has more people than the Greater Houston Metropolitan area. According to the 2000 census, the latest official document on city population, the population breakdown is as such: City of Houston: Population, 1,953,631 City of Dallas: Population, 1,188,580 http://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/00cc... houston has 2.1 million, dallas has 1.2 million. the houston metro area is just over 5 million and growing fast. DFW is also just over 5 million. they are very close in population in terms of metropolitan area. difference is, dallas is really two urban areas rolled into one big metroplex, as they call it. houston is a huge, central city with suburbs fanning out all directions, though mostly to the north/northwest and west/southwest. houston feels bigger and the skyline is certainly more impressive. DFW is a funny animal, i know people who live in plano (immediately north of dallas) that have only been to the fort worth side of the metroplex a few times in their life. i know fort worthers that don't go near dallas, owing to the serpentine traffic problems. so it feels a bit more disjointed, again like two distinct areas that have grown together via suburban expansion. by the year 2030, the houston metro area is expected to have over 8 million. DFW is expected to top out at about 6 million. houston is a mammoth compared to dallas, but the dallas/ft worth metroplex is bigger. |
