Where do the young people live in houston?

Travel Info
My wife and I are 25/26 years old and getting ready to move to Houston. All of our friends live in Midtown, but all of the apartments there seem small and expensive. Where else do young professionals live inside the loop? What are the other areas like?

Travel Tips
Try:
Garden Oaks
The Heights
Oak Forest
Candlelight Estates
Many of the neighborhoods around these areas are ok and close to the Loop
The Galleria area right outside the Loop is OK also for couples.
Just let me say this, it is very hard to find a nice, safe, one bedroom apartment for $600.00/month. Try more like $750-$800.
Welcome to Houston.
Go to www.har.com (Houston Association for Realtors)
and go to www.haaonline.org (Houston Apartment Association)
Search out some of the locations and then go for area crime statistics to:
www.cityofhouston.com
After you have more of an idea what you might like, then come back to this section in Yahoo Answers and ask a more specific question. Good luck and welcome to Houston!

I'm starring this question because I need to know the same thing! My husband and I are moving to Houston from Alabama in a few months. We are looking at some apartments that are about 600.00 a month. We went and looked at some in person not too long ago and if you dont get something expensive you are going to be in a bad neighborhood. 600.00 is about the go rate on a one bedroom.
Midtown is nice...and expensive. If you want to stay inside the loop then check out the Heights. I live just outside the loop in the outer Galleria area. You can find an affordable (often times a little older though) apt. around the area. Just do yourself a favor and try to keep away from the Westchase District (around Beltway 8). The nice parts are quite expensive and the rest is crime ridden!!
The Heights is just outside the Loop but less expensive. There is a small, nice area off of Wayside south of the golf course that you might consider but the surrounding area is less than ideal. I live in Memorial and it is heaven but outside the loop.
uhh you wont be living inside the loop cheap ......
start looking to the burbs dude
who wouldnt want to live inside the loop cheep?
\good luck you will be commuting like all the rest of us
We have lived in the Spring Branch Area of Houston for 38 yrs.. Our young professional daughter & her husband are wanting to move into the Memorial Area but not necessarly
Memorial. Maybe Piney Point,Hedwig Village,Spring Branch.
You might check out Gallirea Area. I may have misspelt that but it is full of everything. Kind of like a city in a city. At present they live in Champion Forest off FM1960.
Good luck to you Welcome to Houston~~~jill
Please come visit our wonderful "Second Baptist Church" and hear Dr. Ed Young when you come to Houston. He is near us and the church is on Voss @ Woodway. We have so much to offer in Bible study classes & friendship.
