Travel Info Is there a beach in Galveston TX called Schlilten Battn or a name close to that? Travel Tips Schlitterbahn really making it's mark as a water theme park chain. The owners (it's privately owned) have focused on making providing a unique and family friendly experience, focusing on every detail of the park. The original park in New Braunfels has won about every water park award, and has been named the #1 water park in America for several years. It is huge -- broken into three pieces -- and has been home to a number of innovations, including uphill water-coasters. This park is turning into a travel destination in it's own right. The chain expanded to South Padre Island several years ago with a smaller park. (South Padre is a popular summer and spring break destination in Texas). That park is more compact, and is more of a local destination for people living there, or traveling to the island on vacation. The third park in Galveston opened last year, and has made quite a 'splash'. The big feature with this park is that a big chunk was built inside a huge aircraft hanger (some of the walls open and close, climate controled, with heated water, so that it will be able to operate year round. It's a great park, and is still expanding. As far as a beach -- it is a water park. But its kind of Disney-esque in the attention to detail. The park has it's own beaches, with clean sand and water. There are picnic tables and shaded areas. You can relax and sun, just like a beach (but much cleaner). FYI -- some of the cool features of these waterparks. You can bring in your own food and drink -- bring a picnic basket if you want. (They do have resturants as well, which are expensive, but not as bad as a six-flags type park). They have giant hot tubs. (If you are over 21) they do sell alchohol -- even from 'swim up' bars in the water. So, want to relax on the beach with a margarita -- you can. It's a great waterpark in Gallveston. Here's their website: www.schlitterbahn.com/gal Schiltterbahn. It is an amusement/water park, not a beach. It is near beaches in Galveston. There's also a Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels, and now I understand in South Padre. |
