Are there any 'secret" spots to eat or have fun in HOUSTON, tx? |
Travel Info We are going on a family trip w/ a baby. Our agenda for the trip seems empty. Everything that we see in the travel brochures we are doing. (moody gardens, galveston beach, zoo, museum, chinatown) is there anything else? Also, where is a place to eat that you would just HAVE to go to in Houston?? thank you!!! Travel Tips Sorry, most of the nice places frown on babies being brought into their restaurants. You will be seated way at the back by the kitchen or restrooms. Stick with McDonald's or eat at the places that you are visiting. Others The Aquarium in downtown Houston is very nice especially since you have a young-in'. Kemah Boardwalk would be a good place to go but not really if you have to tote the baby. If you're interested the NASA Space Center is a very neat place to visit also...even with the baby. Good luck on your trip and take plenty of sunscreen for the beach! The zoo and the children's museum are great places too. The OIL ranch is far northwest of Houston. It has nothing to do with oil. It is named after the owenr of the ranch. O.I.L It has hay rides, baby animals and other things to do. If you are down in Galveston, I would suggest Gaidos on Seawall Blvd. It is nearly 100 years old. I would also suggest the Strand. If you go to NASA, go a little farther to Kemah for some shopping and eating. If you like steaks, I really like Brenners on the west side. They are expensive, but well worth the trip. Also in that same general area, Taste of Texas and Ruth's Chris. They are also as expensive. I like Brenners because it has been a family tradition. I have been going there for nearly 50 years for special occasions. If your baby is up and walking, try to eat at a Lupe Tortillas. They have a couple of locations around town. They serve quite good Tex Mex food but most importantly they have a huge sand play area for the kiddies. If you have been driving about, its a wonderful place for you to baby to blow off steam and as a bonus they make a terrific margarita. Joe's Crabshack also has a sand and play area but their food is just terrible! The Houston Arboretum is a great place to take a hike inside the city and feel that you are lost in the woods. Just be certain to wear insect repellant! If you are looking for fun, funky and eclectic shopping hit 19th Street in the Heights. Some of the coolest antiques, clothing boutiques, art galleries are there and it is very conducive to walking about. There are also a few places along 19th street to grab a drink, coffee or ice cream. The Aquarium in Downtown or Kemah definitly go here - it's fun :) www.potatoepatch.com William's Smokehouse BBQ on Wheatley St. in NW Houston.713 680 8409 The Orange Show on Munger St The Beer Can House on Fagan St Be careful in Chinatown...kinda "gangsta" Tour the tunnels under downtown...nice AC Take the Port of Houston boat tour Be sure to cross over to Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Ferry...free! The San Jacinto Battleground and monument....that's where the cry "Remember the Alamo" was shouted to the Mexican Army. |
