What is the best neighborhood in Indianapolis?

Travel Info
The neighborhood with the best schools, houses, people.

Travel Tips
Carmel is an excellent place to live and so is Noblesville. They are expensive compared to the Plainfield/Brownsburg/Avon area. Carmel schools are probably the best public schools in the Indianapolis area. Plainfield, Brownsburg, and Avon are good schools, but not as good as Carmel. I've found that people from Carmel tend to be a little conceited, for the most part they're all very well-to-do. I would recommend Noblesville.

The person above me suggested Greenwood, and although it's not the worst neighborhood in Indy (that would probably be Haughville), it's not the best, either. The Greenwood area needs some cleaning up, maybe in a few years it will be great.

I'm sure you'll get some differing answers on this one. Both of my kids went to Wayne Township schools (westside). They were good at the time, but I'm not sure about now. I have heard different.

Avon and Plainfield schools (far west & southwest) are also pretty good. I really can't answer for any other areas. Some of your decision will also be based on where you work and how far/long to you want to drive; property taxes; local utility cost, etc.

Neighborhoods and schools change over time. There really isn't a perfect solution.
I am Canadian, visit Indianapolis a couple times a year. Stay in Greenwood , south end of city. Every one there that we met say it is very nice . I find it that way as well. I usually stay for a week at a time.
It really depends on what the most important criteria are for you. For me personally, I have always been a fan of the West side ( i.e.- Brownsburg, Avon, Speedway) Hendricks County has great schools, but the pricing is a little high. Same is true for Carmel, Zionsville, Westfield, etc. I love living in Speedway because it's centrally located, and I'm a block form the track, which makes for great entertainment 3 times a year! Plus, it's pretty affordable. Happy hunting!
carmel is good, fishers, center grove area, and greenwood...they are all pretty nice
Carmel and Fishers are best, stay away from Noblesville, too many child pervs live out there.
