What is a good place to stay when visiting the Indianapolis Zoo? |
Travel Info My husband and I will be taking a weekend trip to Indianapolis and were hoping to stop at the zoo one day. Where is a good place to stay for accomodations. We don't mind driving a little ways from the hotel to the zoo (1/2 hour max). Are there any small little towns that have a nice hotel that is going to be cheaper to stay at than one in the big city? Travel Tips Lots of hotels downtown. The closest one I think is a Courtyard by Mariott on West Street at Maryland -- I say I think because it was a Ramada. I would imagine that is one of the cheaper ones in that area. Others include the Mariott, the Westin, Embassy Suites, the Hyatt , Hilton, the Canterbury, and the new Conrad Hilton in likely order from cheapest to most expensive. A fun one would be the Crowne Plaza in Union Station where they have suites in old railroad cars! I would stay downtown, a little more but with the weather getting nicer you can walk to just about anything you would want. Though there may be a little cheaper places out by the airport to the southwest. I can't see places like Greenwood or other I-465 places being that much cheaper. Have a great time! Others To be honest, there may be plenty of hotels for you to choose from. When I've stayed in Indy, I've been very fortunate with Priceline. I've stayed downtown area and on the north side (around 82nd St.), and both are easy to get to the Zoo. There might be a few little towns you could stay in or around (Plainfield, Greenfield, to name two), but they may be just as expensive. You will enjoy the Indy Zoo. If you have young children or are young at heart, the Children's Museum is a must (World's Largest). www.priceline.com Good place for priceline help: www.biddingfortravel.com ... will give you a good idea of how to bid for a good room. You could also try the Holiday Inn express in Brownsburg. Its just off of I-74, and is about 24 minutes from the zoo (according to mapquest). Drive time could be longer with traffic, and its very easy to get to from I-74 Stay in the city, preferrably downtown...it's worth it. There's so much more to do and for one night it won't break the bank, especially on a weekday. Use hotels.com to check prices...some hotels like the downtown Hyatt and Marriott have special weekday rates if that's when you're coming. |
