What is Indiana Like? |
Travel Info Hi.... I would like to know what Indiana is all about, like the people, wildlife, what does it look like, does it look similar to any other State, our Colleges expensive there?? I might be moving there. Serious Answers only please. Thanks. Travel Tips People: The people, for the most part, are very nice and welcoming. They tend to be a bit more on the conservative side, politically. But there are plenty of people in Indiana, Indianapolis and in college towns, that are much more liberal. There is not a ton of diversity. The majority are Caucasian, with a fair amount of African Americans and Hispanics. And while diversity is growing, you will not see nearly the same diversity as you would see in New York or Chicago. The smaller towns tend to be almost primarily made up of white people. This is not bad or good, it's just not the most diverse state you will ever see. ' Wildlife: There is a TON of parks in Indiana. You can go canoeing, kayaking, hiking. Most of the state if very flat with trees and lots of farmland once you get out of the cities and suburbs. The Southern part of the state has more hills, but there are several rivers that run through Indiana and there is a lot to do outside. There is a large variety of birds, deer, coyotes and animals like racoons, chipmunks, and squirrels that you can see if you venture into some of the parks. Indiana might be compared to Illinois or Ohio. It's more flat than Kentucky. The colleges are very reasonably priced. And there are a ton of them. Butler, Marian, IU, Purdue, IUPUI (which is in Indianapolis), Ball State, Indiana University are just a few. A lot of them are very reasonably priced. Indiana is mostly like any other place to live. People live, work, and amuse themselves. There are restuarants, theaters, a symphony and a ballet (in Indianapolis). There are venues that have concerts and fireworks and there's a lot to do outside. Mostly people are a little more laid back, it's not as label concious as cities like New York or Chicago. For instance, I doubt the majority of people in Indianapolis could look at a suit and say, "that's Armani!" like they can in bigger cities. It's smaller than Baltimore, not nearly as major as Chicago or New York. Probably more on par with Louisville or maybe a little lower on the rung than Atlanta. But it's a nice state, people take pride in it, it has some fun draws like the Indy 500 or the Colts or the Pacers. It has good wildlife and they are doing a lot to try and grow the state and make it appealing to a wider variety of people. I think you would like it if you ended up moving here. Source(s): Lived in Indiana for fifteen years. Other Travel Tips It looks a lot like Ohio. Wildlife??? Cows? Come to Michigan instead. It's like Kentucky and Tennessee and Ohio and Pennsylvania. Very green and forested. Quite a few rolling pastures and fields of farms or ex-farms. Very few cities... lots of small towns. The weather is a little too warm in the summer and a little too cold in the winter. The people are a blend of southerner and midwesterner. Hospitable, and a little suspicious, but not overly so. Current Indian resident My dad used to live there so I usually go back at least once a year. The people in Indiana are pretty nice. The state bird I believe is a cardinal so in that aspect it is similar to Virginia. In all though the state is most similar to Illinois, which I believe is one of its neighboring states. Indiana has alot of trees and it is very flat. It is probably one of the best places to go if you want to take a bike ride. No, colleges are not expensive there and if you live there just like in any other state you will get a discount. I think Indiana is a pretty cool state. They also have some really cool restaurants and some of them are kind of old fashioned so they look really awesome. One of the best things though that everyone in my family enjoys is the Indy 500. The Indy 500 is the one thing that almost everyone that lives there is extremely proud of. Its an indy car race that is really cool. The race track is beautiful and really amazing. At the race they have this boat type thing that sits in the middle of the race track and their is a beach volleyball type court and much more, so that you can have fun while you watch the race. Indiana also has some really cool museums, Including science, bicycle, movie(etc),whatever your preferance. I hope this helped Good luck on your move if you decide to move =) I was born and raised in the northeast corner of the state. It's got 101 lakes in my county. Lots of outdoorsy things like camping, swimming, canoeing, boating, cross-country skiing, toboggan run, state park, outlet malls, local university. I go to college in Indiana and it's not very expensive. It really depends on what school you choose. |
