Firts of all, Puncak (literally means the peak) - 900 m asl - is not in Bandung but Bogor area.

IMHO, Puncak has lost its atrraction of cool climate & beautiful sceneries a long time ago thanks to the unplanned development of villas, houses, hotels, etc. by rich Jakartan officials & businessmen. As a result, the temperature is rising compared to a couple of decades ago & natural beauty is a rare sight.

But please don't be encouraged by the imminent destruction of Puncak. Go there while you can still savour the last of its beauty. Especially, if you're living in Jakarta, you don't have many choices to escape to a cool mountain resorts which are not too far from Jakarta. But take note about the traffic jams during weekends. It could kill your desire to relax in Puncak.

puncak should be nice if you wanna cool climate compare to hot and humid condition of this region..lots of tourist during holidays and accomodations have to be booked in advance. lots of arab tourist too. the people are rather friendly. the environment is acceptable to my finding but rather not to the posh standard that one can hope for, anyway its a good experience for first timer.
its my personal experience being a frequent traveller to many parts of indonesia
puncak is a nice place as the climate there is very cooling. A few nice places to grab a bite. Just b careful of the rain.

I prefer beach instead of cold hills like Puncak.
Totally agree with Stardust... I remember when I was small, going to Puncak means you have to pack up your sweaters, as the temperature dropped in the evening... now those days are gone...

However Puncak is still a highlight for good food (particularly Sundanese food - West Java) and factory outlet shopping!!!... of course nothing beat Bandung for factory outlets...
