What interesting things are there to see in Indonesia in July?

Travel Info
Going to Jakarta for a week and would like to know what things there are in and around Jakarta to see. Hostorical, cultural, and architectural things would be of most interest. Have only traveled in Korea and 3 days in Japan so want to see as much as possible in a short time. I also will be on my own if that makes any difference.

Travel Tips
For a taste of Indonesia multicultural life you must visit Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) - Indonesia Miniature Park.

For old architectural buildings, key in the key words "Old Batavia" in your search engine. Batavia was Jakarta's name before the 1945 independence.

If you're staying in August then perhaps you'll be able to see our independence celebration on Aug. 17th. July has no significance in history of Indonesia I guess. Weather wise, you will be experiencing a warm summer/dry season.

Enjoy your visit to Jakarta. :-p Source(s): http://www.tamanmini.com/?language=en...

Other Travel Tips
Taman Mini is tons of fun and educational.
You have to go to the Suharto museum (Museum Purna Bhakti Pertiwi). It's filled with extravagant gifts the former president recieved from other heads of state. A jade Chinese wedding bed, lots of gold...
If you can, go to the old Dutch section of Jakarta (Batavia).
Since you are interested in the historical/cultural aspects, you may want to catch a wayang puppet show or gamelan performance. If your hotel doesn't have one planned, they can tell you where one is.
Nothing's special in Jakarta in July. Just business as usual.
While you're in Jakarta the following sites are must see:
- Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII). It's a theme park presenting a miniature of Indonesia.
- Taman Impian Jaya Ancol. It's a theme park located in northern Jakarta, presenting ocean adventures (Sea World, Ocean Arena, Jetski, etc.) and some action games (roller coaster, merry-go-round, etc.)
- Mangga Dua. It's shopping heaven for cheap and good stuff, i.e., electronic and fashion.

Bon Voyage
I dont believe there is a lot of culutrual type museums etc..

Jakarta itself is cultural and you will see plenty just driving around and interacting with the people. Architecture is ok, I enjoyed driving through some of the ritzy areas of jakarta and then through many of the slums to see the difference and gap in wealth here. It was eye opening.

Nothing special in Jakarta. Bali would be more interesting.

Try TMII or museums
