Travel Tips
Kuta is an OK place to be if you're looking for night life, lots of choice.

Don't buy Rupiahs in your own country, it's expensive! If you have a credit card that works on an ATM machine, you will not need to carry a lot of cash. US dollars can be exchanged for a reasonable rate, but check out the different CHANGE offices. Do not change a lot of cash at the airport, lousy rate. But there is an ATM near the exit of the airport.

As for taxi to Kuta, do not go with the guys who offer you a taxi at the exit! The safest for a fair price is the airport taxi service, 20 meters to your right when you leave the airport building. Fixed price and secure.

Balinese people are friendly, but -- as in most tourist places around this planet -- need to make some money from you!

If you get tired with the vendors and the taxi drivers (every three steps you'll meet one), just say a friendly "thank you". But only say thank you, and do not give any explenation. This is a cultural thing and people will leave you in peace if just play it by their culture. If they continue, just repeat the "thank you" in a more persistant but still friendly manner. That's all it takes.

As for pick-pockets, yes. You find those in every tourist place in your own country too. So always watch your stuff, especially at the airport. Your hotel will provide you with a secure locker for your documents and small stuff. So you will have your hands free at the beach (great surf!)

If you get friendly (good morning - how are you today) with the hotel staff, they will do everything to make your stay very pleasant.

Food and shopping in Kuta is cheap, if you know how to bargain (nothing is fixed price, unless it has a price tag). Bargaining is also a cultural thing, it's a form of socializing. So, if you bargain friendly but firm..... you pay just a bit under half the price asked.
Don't be shy to bargain, name a rediculously low price, but keep smiling. The smile is the key to get around in Bali!

Just remember this one: in Bali, an openly angry person is considered a person who lost his face...... and will be treated as such.

SOunds to me like you shuld just spend $200 a night and be insulated from the culture. Just a guess. If funds are low and you havenothing to loose, try to meet the locals. Sometimes its good. I wouldn't trade my Jamaican experiences for anything. Woke me up.

OMG DONT GO TO BALI!!!! i had a horrible experience... we got there, these guys at the airpiort stole our luggage we had to pay them 10,000 rupiah each to get them back. the hotel was meant to be the best but it was dirty and there were black marks all over the walls, the sheets were dirty.... we ended up staying at the hard rock hotel right on the beach. awesome hotel!!!! but really, bali is bad. it's not as cheap as everyone says. your money goes fast. they bust people for drugs all the time. the people stalk you and follow you.. the sari club was meant to be the best but it was bombed a few years back... honestly, pick a new destination or jut be very careful...

hotel wise... hard rock hotel. range from 1 million rupiah to 5 million rupiah.... they kept telling us different prices every damn day... hope you speak indonesian enough
Everybody likes to have fun, and in Bali you'll meet lots of Aussies since Bali is Darwin's playground. Kuta Beach is still a hapenin' place, from what I've heard. The culture is worth getting out of bed to see as well. Try it, you might like it.
do not go to bali its terrible they hustle you and follow you and try to set you up they are thieves watch out Kuta is a low life place!
not worth it very much overated
Hotel in Kuta, Sari club.... god bless you
