Welcome to Indonesia.
Going Vacation to Indonesia is Cheap and safe.
The view of the nature is relatively "virgin".
The rate (USD/ Rp) is interesting (1 USD=Rp 9200).
The Janitor level would also have a nice vacation for a week in Indonesia which three stars Hotels offering cheap rate also.

I live in Indonesia... There are so much interesting places in Indonesia... From west to east, so much culture on there.. Such as West Sumatera. In Padang, you will find so much interesting places.. From Museum Adityawarman to Air Manis Beach. In Air Manis, there is a history called Malin Kundang. In Bukittinggi, there is Jam Gadang (a large clock tower built by the Dutch in 1926), Pasar Atas and Pasar Bawah (markets), Lubang Jepang (Japanese Caves - a network of underground bunkers & tunnels built by the Japanese during World War II ), Taman Bundo Kanduang (park), Ngarai Sianok (Sianok Canyon). For surfing, just go to Mentawai Islands and Batu Islands. So many experience places in Indonesia, not just West Sumatera.
I am Indonesian so my opinion may not be objective so I would like to share some places for you to check through search engine like gogle or yahoo.

1. Bali
=> beach "pantai kuta, Nusa dua, Lovina"
=> hill 'Kintamani"
=> Market 'Pasar Saraswati"

2. Lombok
=> Senggigi beach

3 Manado
=> Bunaken Beach

4. Jogyakarta
=> Borobudur temple " the biggest temple in the world"

i love my vacation in Indonesia. The people there are very polite and the food is delicious. But beware of pickpockets there. I've been robbed once.
Medan, the food was great.
I visited Bali in October 2005. I loved it. The food is amazing, the people are wonderful, the sites are incredible in Ubud and the coasts, and Kuta has the best bodysurfing in the world.
