Why visit Indonesia? |
Travel Info Could you give me 5 or more reasons to visit Indonesia? Are there some big festivals I could attend? What attractions or cultural activities are there to see? Travel Tips 1. Perched on a hill to the west of Yogyakarta is Borobudur, probably the largest Buddhist sanctuary in the world, which contains more than 5km (3 miles) of relief carvings. 2. Sumatra is the second-largest island in Indonesia, straddling the Equator, with a volcanic mountain range, hot springs, unexplored jungle and vast plantations. Mount Loeser Reserve, Bengkulu and Gedung Wani organise supervised safaris enabling visitors to see tigers, elephants, tapirs and rhinos at close hand. Lake Toba, once a volcanic crater, is 900m (3000ft) above sea level and has an inhabited island in the middle. 3. The landscape of Bali, 'Island of the Gods', is made up of volcanic mountains, lakes and rivers, terraced ricefields, giant banyans and palm groves and, on the coast, bays ringed with white sandy beaches. 4. The capital city of Jakarta retains much from the colonial Dutch and British periods, with many fine colonial-style buildings and the recently restored 'old quarter'. The National Monument towers 140m (450ft) above the Merdeka Square and is crowned with a 'flame' plated in pure gold. 5. Unofficially known as 'Orchid Island', Sulawesi is a land of high mountains, misty valleys and lakes. In the south is Bantimurung Nature Reserve which has thousands of exotic butterflies. The island has geysers and hot springs, the most celebrated of which are at Makule, Karumengan, Lahendong, Kinilow and Leilem. Racing is a popular island activity; there is horse-racing and bullock-racing and at Ranomuut there are races with traditional horse-drawn carts (bendi). Festivals: - Borobudur holds a procession on Waisak (Buddha's birthday) - Jakarta Jazz Festival held in Jakarta, usually attended by known international jazz artists like Chaka Khan - Fishing Festival: West Java in June, Pesta Nelayan (fishing festival) is celebrated at pelabuhanratu where dances, sailing contests and offering to Nyai Loro Kidul (Goddess of the Southern Seas) are carried out. Others U DONT!!! 1. Big festivals around June-July in Jakarta 2. Bali beach is always fantastic...cultural activities are oftenly held here (www.baliselections.com) 3. Amazing art and culture that you'll find it endless from city to city, island to island... 4. Untouched rain forest, with amazing species of animals and flora. 5. Mouthwatering food and fruit in lots of variety.... I can name you more and specifically if you mentioned which region/city in Indonesia that you are refering to have festivals and cultural activities I think one of the most important reasons you should visit is to encourage other travelers who have have been exposed to all the media stigma regarding Indonesia. There are so many good people loosing their businesses and livelihood because of the thumping our tourism industry has been given by terrorism. Come because you want to, because you can, to help, to promote and to have fun! http://www.wherethebalihellareyou.com/... I like the clubs in Jakarta. 1. Indonesia has plenty islands with different ethnics and cultures. 2. Indonesia may not be that good as Thailand or Malaysia in promoting its beautiful places but this will be advantage for visitors since the visitors could visit beautiful places without too much disctruction from other visitors. 3. Big festivals would be in Bali and Yogyakarta such as traditional dances and culture celebration. 4. Bali and Yogyakarta have international airport which offer direct flight from many countries. 5. The Government of Indonesia is working seriously to encounter terorism in Indonesia. In fact, the police has captured those provocators in Poso and bali bombers. Hope they will be able to destroy the network. Welcome to Indonesia! Indonesia is the biggest archipelago in the world, therfore there are a lot of beaches. Other than that, Indonesia is home to Monas (National Monument), Borrobudur Temple, Museum Gajah, Istana Negara, Prambanan Temple, Istiqlal Mosque and more. |
