Does corruption hinders the growth of tourism in this country? |
Travel Info Does corruption hinders the growth of tourism in this country? Travel Tips Yes because it will result in high-cost productivity. e.g. when a producer has to bribe government officers (quite common practice here), he has to increase the price or alternatively pay his workers very low (case of cheap labour). Corruption resulting in high costs and poor service discourages people to visit. Why would someone spend fortune in Indonesia if they can visit more destinations in other countries with the same amount of money? It's not very visible if the tourists are from rich and neibhouring countries. What about tourists-to-be from other continents who want to travel with low budget? Yes corruption DOES hinder tourism industry. Let's HANG the corruptors. :) Others yes. corruption, terrorism, and natural disasters. Corruption can hamper the growth of any industry in any country. ~ No... tourist always grow... no matter where they go, they grow. ~ In space, there's that theory about traveling so many lightyears away, that when they return, we'll already be dead and burried. Tourism in any country depend on several different factors, corruption being one of them. The act of corruption itself might not seem directly linked to growth of tourism, but the lingering effects of it sure does. - Money that is allotted for tourism-related items might be misappropriated for other non-tourism related items. - The fear of complicated legal procedures in Indonesia can drive away tourists, for example, illegally detained because the local cops want money from tourists. Immigration "problems" and such.. - Money to combat terrorism in Indonesia might not be used for that purpose, thus creating a safe haven for terrorists. Corruption, security, transportation safety records, cleanliness are some factors that contribute to how successful tourism is in one country. Not so much I don't think. Tourists are pretty much left alone when it comes to bribes that others may be expected to give. Indonesia is still a cheap and easy country to travel in. May lead to the inefficiency in promoting the country as much as it should be however. Plain and simple Absolutely YES |
