How to make joss sticks? |
Travel Info How to make joss sticks? Travel Tips It would be really cheaper to buy them from any Oriental store. From my experience, the ones made in India with natural materials are better than those that consist of artificial scents. Making them is not easy and you'll need to get a lot of things in the right proportion. For one, you'll need charcoal powder to serve as the base for the fragrant part and thin, BBQ skewers made of bamboo or wood, usually used for Satay. Next, you'll require powders of sandalwood, frankincense and other fragrant gums and resins. Mix them well with the charcoal powder and add a little water to allow the resins and gums to serve as an adhesive. Then, quickly roll a small amount around the satay skewers, leaving a small bit to serve as the base that can be stuck in an incense burner etc. Leave these to dry indoors for a few hours. It's NOT an easy process and will cost you a lot. Rather, it's cheaper to buy those available in the market. The only advantage in making your own joss sticks is- you can select the scent or fragrance you want and their size. Others you need to get some sandle wood, prob cheaper to buy though |
