What is the education system like in Indonesia? |
Travel Info What languages do you they study? What language do they use in subjects like Maths and Science? Do they study their native language such as Javanese etc? Tell me abt the age they go Primary School, Secondary School, Pre-University and University. What do they call it in Indonesia? Thank you. Travel Tips There are two systems in Indonesia: local schools and national plus schools. In local/national schools, the language used is Indonesian, but they do have classes for English, Math, Science basically everything except English itself are taught in Indonesian, No dialects such as Javanese are usually offered in any of the schools in Indonesia, at least not in big cities like Jakarta. Primary school (Sekolah Dasar) generally begins at 6-7 years old, Sec school (SMP (Sekolah Menengah Pertama) = Junior High begins after 6 years of primary school, so around 12-13 years old. SMA (Sekolah Menengah Atas) = High School begins after 3 years of SMP, at 15-16 years old). Generally students who have graduated from SMA, go directly to university (Universitas), but some do stay for pre-univ or associate degree because of financial or academic reasons. For national plus schools, classes are mostly taught in English and the curriculum depends on what country they base their schools on. E.g. Singapore, American, Australian, China, etc. Others I don't know Indonesian also Indonesian Yes they study a little javanese About the same age compare to the other country SMP SMU Diploma D3 Universitas Thank you to you too First, we do not study Javanase...Only poor kids in villages do that...Now, most schools (which are international/national plus schools) are using English as first language and maths, science, art, commerce, PE, etc are taught in english. There are 5 popular choices of education programmes: O'level (year7-10), A'level (year 11-12), IB (year 11-12), certificate IV (year 11/12) and Diploma( after certificate IV)...Here, only poor/lower class community kids go to national schools. I'm an Indonesian. Graduated with O'level when I was 15 and with certificate IV when I was 16. Just check this website: www.gandhijkt.org (a good school) |
