Question for Indonesians-What is your opinion about the current government? |
Travel Info I'm a foreigner that has been living in Indonesia for 16 years. Ok, there are still some problems the President, needs to handle better. Floods, traffic jams in Jakarta, monorail, and of course corruption. But look at the bright side , there weren't any terrorist atttacks last year. Since 2001- 2005, Indonesia has had terrorist attacks yearly. It wasn't until SBY's term, that there weren't any terrorists attacks. 1 problem taken care of, many more to go. Travel Tips All of that of a course will take a while. We can't just expect government to settle all the problem and crisis that we experience just like that. Everything will need time, moreover unlike China our system is democracy it means that the government also have to listen to the people and it's freedom of expression. Do you think the issue that you've mention above is an easy problem to deal with? I think for a developing country, SBY administration have made a great and impressive job. I didn't to be offensive but from my perception many Indonesian are pessimist and you can never have a bright future if you are pessimist. We should at least be optimistic and positive about our country's development. Look at Aceh now, the conflict and unrest is now diminished since the peace treaty were signed 2 years ago and that is one magnificent achievement. Floods and traffic jams is a very demanding and difficult problem to settle with. Due to the lack of action and money to prevent floods it might be continue until at least 2010. Traffic jams was caused by the fact that the government has not yet provide a good quality and sufficient amounts of public transportation. They still planning on building monorail and subway as you've mention and once the government done with that, then traffic in Jakarta will definetely diminish. But all of that will require money and time, our debts is 50 % of the GDP per Capita. How are we suppose to overcome that hinderance and invest more money? Corruption is just inevitable and it's not only happening in my country. Every nation even US and European countries do have corruption. Corruption is a major factor that led to floods and traffic jams. If there is no corruption in Indonesia heaven shall come. We have to learn how to spend and expenditure money properly and rightfully for people's needs so that we could put an end to those disasters. But of a course all of this is a complicated procedure that can never be done in one presidential year-term. Others I think that the government isn't perfect, it definitely isn't, but it is trying and making progress. What we need now is cooperation from the people. |
