Are you staying in a apartment block/hotel? If so you should still be able to get something, though you may pay slightly more. I worked as a rep in Menorca a while back and generally new arrivals each week could get cars if they wanted them, even if they'd not been able to pre-book from the UK. They hold a few back just for this reason, and sometimes people cancel their bookings too, but when availability is limited prices start to climb. You might not be able to get a whole week's worth, but perhaps 5 days? Just make sure you go along on your first day and collar the rep if there is one, or the hotel reception - they should be able to sort you out. If you're on a package a transfer should be included anyway, and if not there's an island bus service and tons of taxis to get you to your accomodation in the first instance.
