Puerto de la Cruz?

Been offered The El Tope (Thomson Gold) in Puerto De La Cruz for my parents. Dad hasn't been well and we're looking for something nice. Does anyone know it?

The El Tope is a nice enough hotel. Its a Thomson Gold (not suitable for kids under 16 years of age)

I do however have a few reservations.

The El Tope is on a hill. there are around 120 steps down to town (and back again). Making it totally unsuitable for anyone with any mobility problems.
There is a free bus service but it depends on times etc and I'm sure they don't run at night if they do it's infrequent.

It is also quite an older style of hotel and in my opinion, in need of refurbishment.

Also, you need to know that Puerto de la Cruz is a very nice resort, it is hilly. Theres no beach to speak of and if they want to be at the seafront, then they'd be using the public lido which costs money to use.
The weather in Puerto because it's in the north of Tenerife can be cooler and wetter than the sunnier drier south.

If you're looking at the Thomson idea- they have some Platinum hotels in the south. I'd reccomend Bahia Princess/Guyarmina Princess/Tenerife Princess. Check out Thomson pricebreakers which can be cheaper but only g'tees they'll be in one of the Platinum hotels in that area- worth a look though.
