Are there pine trees in Jerusalem?

Travel Info
The Christmas tree is a ritual started by Pagans, before the time of Christ. Are there even pine trees in Jerusalem?

Travel Tips
Absolutely.
The most widespread pine tree in Israel is known as "Jerusalem pine" (Pinus halepensis).
The mountains around Jerusalem are covered with pines, oaks, olives, terebinths, laurels and more...

The custom of decorating an evergreen tree in the winter is indeed Pagan, but not exclusively European: it is known that the people of the Mediterranean basin (including Israel and its area) used to practice this custom as well.
The Israelites, anyway, did not do it, and if you're looking for the religious reason, read Jeremiah 10. Source(s): Israeli
