Travel Info Any recommendations on what to do and where to stay on a family trip to Israel in July? Travel Tips Where to go: Jerusalem-~ 3-4days- Old City (Church of Holy Sepluchre, market place, Western Wall, the Cardo), the Israeli Supreme Court (go for a tour it's interesting), David's Citadel, Yad Vashem Eilat- ~3-5 days (it's a very long drive to Eilat or you can fliy there from T-A, but that's ~$60+ per person)- go snorkeling or scuba diving, stop along the way in Ein Ovdat (there's a beautiful park there)- you can also do a day trip to Petra, which is highly highly recommended (but very expensive b/c visas into jordan are ~$100 per person, i believe, and the tour can also be quite expensive) The Dead Sea- ~3 days- Ein Gedi desert oasis, Masada (a must), floating in the Dead Sea, etc. Tel Aviv Area- ~3 days- Jaffa (beauuuutiful 4000yr old port), Neve Tzedek (Tel Aviv's bohemian neighborhood, nice shops and cafes), Nachlat Binyamin (amazing crafts market), the T-A beaches (amazing), Eretz Yisrael museum--- Tel Aviv is a great balance to all the history and religion that you'll experience elsewhere in israel Haifa- 1/2 day- Bahaii Temple and Gardens (the most beautiful gardens anywhere in the world bar none; you need to make reservations in advance though for a tour), the top of Mt. Carmel (the view from here is the most-breathtaking view anywhere- it will feel like an out-of-body experience) Caesaria- 1/2 day- beautiful, well-preserved Roman ruins; also a popular beach and dining/shopping area Acre/Rosh Hanikra- 1/2 day- 1 day- Old Acre is a beautifully well-preserved Ottoman/Crusader city and is very rich in history and Kodak moments; in Rosh Hanikra, descend below the surface of the ground to go to the Grottos the Galilee/Golan Heights- ~3-4 days- go to Tzfat (holy city for Jews where Kaballah was founded), Nazareth (I thought it was very disappointing but you might find otherwise), Tzipori (one of the largest and best preserved Roman cities in the world), the Jordan River baptismal site, Sea of Galilee (go swimming; just take in its immense beauty), the Golan Heights (beautiful and fascinating place- highly recommended is a visit to Nimrod's Fortress and to Tel Dan national park and to the Banias national park) As far where to stay: I would recommend staying in the more expensive hotels, to be honest. Israeli 3star hotels are the equivalent of a 0.5 star hotel in the US. While you can find some good hotels for less than $100 per night, I don't think it's worth the gamble (and I speak from personal experience). You can stay in a nice hotel in Israel for ~$100-$200 a night, which when you compare it to Europe or many places in the states, isn't so bad. And for transportation, I recommend taking taxis, buses and trains everywhere. Taxis in Israel are very cheap and plentiful. If you rent a car, you will have to contend with the insanity which is Israeli drivers/Israeli roads, not to mention that you'll never find a legal parking space in the cities. Others There is a very nice forum with lovely people on Tripadvisor go ask there, they have great itineraries, hotel names and other stuff. http://www.tripadvisor.com/showforum-g29... i would recommend touring from north to south so u pack in the whole thing-golan heights(hotel-chispin)-alot of hiking netanya has a nice tourist area with beach and horsebackriding at sunset on the beach-a must! dead sea, masada, ein gedi-alot of hotels in the dead sea area with spas-novotel is an example. jerusalem could keep u busy for weeks! from the city of david to the western wall, tunnel tours, southern excavations, old city, geula shopping area, yaffo shopping street.............. also theres back up north tsfat-the mystical city(ron motel) then the most touristy spot in israel is eilat where its boiling hot all summer but plenty of indoor and outdoor activities-king city=indoor biblical amusement park-alot of fun for all ages!,gorgeous water with water sports and ferry style rides, also a live aquarium and much more! i love israel-if you want any specific deails on certain places or areas, i went on a 6 week tour and ive done everything! so just email me through y!answers. not to palestein, that place sucks |
