Does anyone know anything about the family of Jacob Israel De-Haan?

Travel Info
I know he was of the old community in Amsterdam and his father worked as a sexton in one of its synagogues. My question is did he belong to the Ashkenaz or Sephardic community?

Travel Tips
I don't know who you are talking about, but coming from Amsterdam, I am guessing he is ashkenaz!

Others
I have researched all archives, nothing has been written about his family, I somehow guess he was from Ashkenazi descendants but am not sure. Is that important?
Well the name De-haan is definitely a sephardic name. So I would say that he belonged to the sephardic community. There is a big sephardic community in Amsterdam. The members are descendants of the Jews who escaped from Spain and Portugal during the Spanish Inquisition.
