Is it still possible to drive in Jerusalem, Israel and Tel Aviv, Israel? |
Travel Info There is a light-rail project in Jerusalem and public transit in Tel Aviv that may have replaced auto traffic. Travel Tips Driving is still allowed, and probably will be for a long while. The mass transportation is in addition to other means. However you should know that Jerusalem is difficult to navigate by car and there is often traffic, while the popular bus routes have separate mass-transportation lanes. Often it is better to take the bus than a car there. Also, the light rail isn't completed yet and isn't slotted for completion for a while, so in Jerusalem bus is the way to go. Tel aviv also is built somewhat around mass-transportation, and can also be difficult to navigate by car, as some roads might be off-limits to non-mass transportation vehicles. But in both places, and throughout all of Israel, auto-traffic is allowed. Others If you are a good driver, yes.. Unfortunately, yes. I wish they would ban cars in Tel Aviv. I've spent hours in traffic jams there. I do it all most every day! The light rail project has got a good few years ahead of it still. Of course we have auto traffic...way too much if you ask me (and probably every other Israeli). I agree with 讬砖砖讻专. If there is one things that many, many Israelis lack, it is road etiquette, and the simple ablity to drive. If you are not used to Israeli driving, simply be wary, and you must be a bit assertive or chances are there will be an accident...I always recommend public transport. I actually sold my car last year and have been only using public transportation. It saves me the daily stress of attempting to survive Israeli roads and the random drivers who seem to wanna commit suicide and take as many others down with them as possible, not to mention the unsufferable daily traffic jams. |
