Cost of living in Israel?

Travel Info
I want to move to Israel for about 6 months to a year. I would like to know te price of stuff like going to a restaurant, having a Big Mac burger, rent for an appartment, price of a cheap car, movie ticket prices - all the general stuff. How much should be a good budget per month to look for?

Travel Tips
Fast food will cost you from 15 (Falafel etc.) to 36 NIS (Mac royal - it's the metric system here...).
A proper restaurant will cost about 100-150 NIS depends on the type of food, quality of restaurant and its location.
Of course if you cook yourself it's much cheaper and the prices of vegetables, fruits and other elementary products is relatively low. I'd say that for supermarket you'll need about 1200-1500 NIS for a month.
If you rent an apartment you'll need about 1500-2000 NIS in Tel-Aviv. A bit less in other cities.
Gettin' around - I don't think you'd want to buy a car 'cause it's quite expensive. You'll need about 10000NIS for a 15 year old car. So it's better to use the public transportation. As always, buses are cheaper than trains.
The rest of expenses depends on your activity. A ticket to the cinema is about 40 NIS. A beer in a pub is about 15-20 NIS.

Well above all, it could cost u ur life, so never mind the other minor costs. Sincerely, u should reconsider this.
A Big Mac?

WOW!
You sure are the adventurous type, aren't you?

General rule of thumb.
Eat Israeli produce
Don't eat imported products

Forget meat - eat plenty of fruit and veg

and as for BIig Macs - yep, they have those as well - for shmuks like you!
Israel is expensive, especially for food and rent (compared to Europe and the US) but not for transport.

The Arab areas, such as in the Old City of Jerusalem, are the cheapest. You can get a felafel there for 5 or 6 NIS.

In the Occupied Territories it's even cheaper: 4NIS in Bethlehem and 2NIS in Jenin.
