What can I use if I am traveling to a country which has hard water that ruins the hair? |
Travel Info I'm going to Jerusalem this summer, and every time I go there my hair takes a beating. It starts getting thinner and drier, from the water over there.Any tips on combating this unfriendly phenomena this time around? Travel Tips Hi, the problem could also be augmented by the dry air and hot sun. You may want to try a combination of things and see what works out best: - select a shampoo and spray-on, no rinse conditioner that offer UV protection / filters. The suggestion to use something local (above) was good. - after shampooing and rinsing with water, rinse your hair with vinegar. I know it's pungent, but it leaves a nice shine and vinegar is a known descalant (gets rid of limescale, the stuff that makes water hard). - now spray on the conditioner and do not rinse. Your hair will not smell like vinegar anymore and any scale that was in it should be out. It should also be protected against sun damage and drying. - hair can also take a beating from losing minerals that are present in your diet at home but not when you are in Jerusalem. Try a "hair and nail" mineral supplement from your local druggist or take multivitamins with minerals with you on your trip. As an additional step, you may also want to try a "hair mask" at night -- massage your scalp with a very neutral oil, such as almond or hazelnut oil, and then in the morning go through the wash procedure above. The massage will help to stimulate your hair follicles and promote growth, and the nut oil will only help. Hope I've helped and have a nice stay! Source(s): "old wives' tales" mixed in with modern cosmetics and a little ayurveda Other Travel Tips bottle water and conditioner. I'm afraid there is not much you can do other than go crazy with the conditioner. Leave it on after the wash, keep the head warm, put on a plastic cap and sit under the hair dryer for 10 minutes to get the full effect of the conditioner. I have the same problem here and short of someone installing a mineral removal device (which is rather pricy), there's nothing else you can do. Sorry to say. ask your hairstylist for products that deal with this issue....there are hard water areas right here in the US.... i was always told to use the shampoo and conditioner from there. thats what i did for the ten months that i spent in israel, and my hair kept up nicely. also try to use a good conditioner. I think it's from the sun... not from the water... you can wear a hat and use a good conditioner |
