Is Israel is becoming an apartheid state?

Travel Info
some facts that say it is becoming one...apartheid as a policy, is not exclusive to one basis ... it is the forced separation of groups of people ... it can take different forms, and does not have to be procedurally the same as south africa to be considered an apartheid system ... in israel, and the occupied territores particularly, it is based on religion .. it involves checkpoints, separate roads, physical barriers, different levels of service, segregated program offerings, marriage prohibitions, travel restrictions, prohibition against military service, etc...

the palestinians living in the occupied territories are clearly disenfranchised from the democractic process ... israeli govt policies rule their lives, the IDF enforces it, yet they cannot vote for a change in those policies. apartheid in south africa did not start as a racially motivated policy, it started as an attempt to control an indigenous population, to maintain order and reduce conflict ... institutionalized segregation is what followed, and seems to be where israel is heading

So it seems..."A UN human rights envoy has compared Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories to elements of apartheid. The UN's Special Rapporteur, John Dugard, describes the regime as being designed to dominate and systematically oppress the occupied population.
In a new report, Mr Dugard says: "Israel's laws and practices certainly resemble aspects of apartheid". Source(s): http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6...

If Israel were in Apartheid State, it wouldn't have an Arab science minister, it wouldn't have equal and proportional representation in the Knesset for Arabs (and full political and legal rights for Israeli Arabs), it wouldn't have affirmative action policies in place for Arabs, and so on. I am too tired to debunk the individual points of your faulty and idiotic argument. I'll save the privilege for someone else.

EDIT:
Marissa-

Ignorant, me? No, honey- I think you're the one who is ignorant and has no understanding of Israel and its society. Arabs (who may identify themselves as Palestinian but who live in Israel proper as Israeli citizens) are referred to as Israeli Arabs in order to delineate them from Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza.
It has been an apartheid state since its creation.

Palestinians were forced to give up their land and then pushed across the borders of neighboring states. That's not unlike what Hitler did to all sorts of people in Europe, including Jews.

Palestinians find their daily lives interrupted and disrupted by various "security" techniques applied by Israel that are demeaning and crude. To me, this is exactly what went on in South Africa prior to Mandela's advent. If the same behavior was labelled apartheid in the instance of South Africa, then let it also be the name for what the Israeli government is doing to Palestinians.

One good thing: South African whites, even with all their military power, woke up to the fact that racism and segregation were bringing the country to trouble. It would do Israelis well to follow their example before it's too late.
The State of Israel was originally built on a contradictory notion. The Declaration of Independence states, firstly that Israel shall be a "Jewish state", and also that it will guarantee the equality of all its citizens irrespective of race or religion, and that it will work in the interests of all its citizens.

The fact that Arabs (other than Bedouin and Druze) cannot even volunteer for military service, and the social and economic importance of one's past military service in Israeli life, means that the notion of equality is false, even towards Israeli Arabs. Palestinian Arabs, of course, are not Israeli citizens but their lives are controlled by Israel and its army.

Take a look at some Arab areas of Israel such as Nazareth, and compare the infrastructure with that of neighbouring Jewish settlements, and see where the tax money goes.

Israel of course is in a unique and difficult position, so I do not condemn it outright. But it is true that it's the only country in the world whose very existence is based on racial identity.

What would it look and sound like if the Republic of Ireland, for example, was founded as "a homeland for the Irish people", or Germany was to be "a German state"?
Yes apartheid state of Israel.
You should check back into the kookoo house you came from, seriously.
They have Arabs in their parliament, they even have a minister who is an Arab, but they are of course, and rightfully so an apartheid state. Yep.
Now Saudi Arabia is not an apartheid state. Oh no! They only behead Jews for being Jews, and they may behead you for praying to Jesus, and the ONLY religion allowed is islam, but no apartheid there....
Gaza is not apartheid, they are truly an example of how good people should exist and coexist. What? You will get tortured and killed for being Jewish if you walk through Gaza? So? What is the big deal?
Egypt must not be an apartheid state, right? Since there are so many Jews living there and all. You know, prior to 1967 there was a Jewish community living in Egyp, but they were robbed out of mostly everything they had, and some of them ran, and others got murdered. But It is justified, cause they were just some Jews, right?

You are so full of feces, and you know it. You cannot argue with me. Best you can do is fart a lying statement like this out, and when I argue each of your sentences, you won't answer back because, like I said, you are full of turds.

To the guy above me - all are allowed to volunteer for military service, where do you get those lies from, and firmly believe in them?
You know, I don't get the apartheid point. Half you anti-Israel people are saying "Israel is occupier yada yada give it back" then the other half are saying "Israel is apartheid yada yada give rights". Well it can't work both ways; either the occupied land should be part of Israel, giving palestinians rights as citizens, or it should be given back creating a palestinian state, but meaning the palestinians get no citizen rights currently. Now obviously most people are against outright annexation, so there's no reason to expect the Palestinians to get the same rights as Israeli citizens. Also, in explaining your apartheid, you refer exclusively to Palestinians as the segregated group and then claim it's a matter of religon; you may be interested to know that Israel is 16-20% Muslim, who are not discriminated against (definately not institutionaly; for the most part there is affirmative action in their benefit) and have full rights as Israeli citizens. Included in that is the vote. So essentially your "segregation by religion" would have to break into discrimination against the Palestinian form of Islam. Since there doesn't seem to be any major difference, I agree with another poster in saying that you are full of feces.
Furthermore, Palestinians did have a vote that directly impacted the policy governing their lives. It was the vote that put Hamas, a terrorist entity bent on Israel's destruction, rather than Fatah, the more moderate potential (emphasis) peace partner, on top. That more than anything is what is prolonging the conflict, to the point where the Palestinians are at virtual civil war for dominion. I don't really see any room to call Israel an apartheid state.
