Understand that the Dead Sea is below sea level. You'll notice the difference in temperature as you descend from either Jerusalem (if you are in Israel) or Amman (if you are in Jordan). It gets progessively warmer as you progress towards the Dead Sea.

It's an interesting, if not unique, place to visit. And actually, you can stand on the River Jordan, which about 2 meters wide at the place where one is allowed to visit by either the Jordanians or the Israelis.
